Tongyang town is subordinate to Tongshan County, Xianning City, Hubei Province, with a total land area of 204.51 square kilometers (2017). It has jurisdiction over 23 administrative villages, 6 community neighborhood committees, 170 villager groups, a total population of 149228 (2017), and a total cultivated area of 26300 mu. The town has a long history. In 959 ad, Yangshan town was changed into Tongyang town in the Southern Tang Dynasty. In 964 ad, Yongxing County was divided into Tongshan County and Tongyang town was established as the county seat. Tongyang has been the seat of Tongshan County Government for more than 1000 years.
Township situation
Tongyang town is the political, economic and cultural center of Tongshan County. It is an ancient town with a history of more than 1600 years, integrating the old area, the Soviet Area, the mountainous area and the reservoir area. The town was set up at the foot of Luofu Mountain. As far back as the Neolithic age, it had been inhabited and multiplied by human beings. Since Yongchang (AD 322), Tongyang town was established. In 964 ad, Yongxing County was divided into Tongshan County and Tongyang town. Tongyang has been the seat of Tongshan County Government for more than 1000 years. The town is located in the west of the middle of the county, rich in water upstream. East longitude 11427-11437, north latitude 2931-2941, the maximum transverse distance and maximum longitudinal distance are 18.5km, the land area is 204.51km2 (2017). It borders Jiugongshan and Dafan in the East, Chuangwang and Xiapu in the East, West and south, huangshapu in the north, Dalu Township and nanlinqiao in the West. The town government is now located in Yangdu Avenue, the new urban area of the county. In the northwest, it is 37 kilometers away from the hot spring where Xianning municipal government is located, and in the East, it is 10 kilometers away from Dafan nuclear power plant, the first inland nuclear power plant in China, and Hubei Tongshan yinshuidong Geopark. The northeast is 120 kilometers away from the provincial capital Wuhan, and the south is 55 kilometers away from the national key scenic spot Jiugong Mountain. It is in the economic radiation circle of Nanchang, Changsha, Yueyang, Huangshi, Jiujiang, Wuhan and other large and medium-sized cities. National Highway 106 passes through 6 villages in the south of the town, with a road section of 18.5 km. Hangzhou Ruizhou Expressway and Dafan nuclear power highway pass through 7 villages in the north of the town, with a road section of 10.2 km.
