Ercheng Town, Hongan County, Hubei Province is located in the west of Hongan County, adjacent to Chengguan town in the East, gaoqiaohe town in the south, shangxinji town in the West and huajiahe town in the north. Ercheng town covers a total area of 129.25 square kilometers (2017), with 31 villager committees, 347 villager groups, 10018 households and 38886 people (2017). Ercheng town was formerly known as the Zhao family. Cheng Yi, a philosopher and educator in the Northern Song Dynasty, and Cheng Hao were born here and run a school. Later, in memory of them, people named the town after their surnames, hence the name of Ercheng town.

Township enterprises include brick factory, pharmaceutical machinery factory, flour processing factory, Jian'an company, etc. There are more than 500 individual and private businesses. Ercheng town is the place where many famous people pay attention. Chen kuijiu, a famous "little capital official" in the late Qing Dynasty, once set up education and "Yanling" school in Qiaodian of the town in his later years. Cheng Yi and Cheng Hao once gave lectures in the Zhao family for a long time, spreading cultural knowledge and political ethics thoughts. Geng Dingxiang, a neo Confucianist of Ming Dynasty, often lingered between the mountains and waters of the town. During the second Civil Revolutionary War, a group of senior generals of the people's army of the people's Republic of China, such as Han Xianchu, Wang Chenghan, Han Weimin, Chen Yanqing, Zhou Shizhong and Zhan Shaolian, came out. He also came out of Pan Yiru and Chen Xiaofen, two early revolutionaries. They have made great contributions to the success of China's revolutionary cause.

On May 26, 2020, Ercheng town was selected into the list of strong agricultural towns in 2020.

It is 43km away from Hongan west station of high-speed railway, 83km away from Wuhan Tianhe Airport, 11km away from Hongan bus terminal and 16km away from Hongan county. There is a bus to Ercheng town at the county passenger station, which runs every 10 minutes on average.

The origin of town name

Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, born in Luoyang in the Northern Song Dynasty, were born in Ercheng Town, Hong'an county.

Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi are brothers, and they are called Er Cheng in the world. Cheng Er is one of the five founders of Neo Confucianism in the Northern Song Dynasty. His co founded "Luoxue" makes Neo Confucianism have a complete form, and he is the actual founder of Neo Confucianism in the song and Ming Dynasties.

Cheng Hao was a brilliant young man. At the age of 10, he was able to recite poems and write Fu. At the age of 20, he became a scholar. He had been crown prince zhongyun, acting as censor, tidian Xingju and central temple Cheng. When Cheng Yi was 18 years old, he was praised by Emperor Renzong and was granted Jinshi background. After that, he was given the group training tuiguan, Guozijian and Chongzhengdian storytelling. Cheng opposed Wang Anshi's new law, but he could not be used in politics. Therefore, he retired to study Confucianism, and received lectures.

In the fifth year of Yuanfeng, Emperor Shenzong of Song Dynasty (1082), the Cheng brothers traveled to their birthplace again, visited Laojun Mountain and Tiantai Mountain, and carved stones as a memorial. This is their first and last time to return to their hometown. In order to show respect and commemoration, the birthplaces of Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi were renamed "Ercheng", and the two nearby mountains were named "Dacheng mountain" and "Xiaocheng mountain".

It was originally called the Zhao family. In the Northern Song Dynasty, Cheng Yi and Cheng Hao once ran schools here. In memory of them, later generations named the town after their surnames. In 1996, tongbaiji town covers an area of 44 square kilometers and has a population of 16000. It governs 12 administrative villages including tongbaiji, Dafan, zhangbeishan, lvjiazui, Ma'an, tiejianggang, yanlushan, zhangguolao, zhaijishan, guangshangang, Qifengshan and chenjiazhai. The town government is stationed in tongbaiji. Ercheng Township covers an area of 84 square kilometers and has a population of 30000. It governs Changgang, Xilin, zhanchengjia, Dayan, Yutai and jiangpai There are 19 administrative villages, including tiandian village, Luoshan village, toad stone village, zhouhaisan village, dazhaojia village, tumenlou village, wangjiachong village, Sanliqiao village, guanwangzhai village, Jingjuan village, loulijia village, dashanbei village and sanligang village.

In 1999, Tongbai market town and Ercheng Township were abolished and Ercheng town was merged. In 2004, the town government was stationed in Ercheng, with a population of 38805 and an area of 129 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over toad stone, zhouhaishan, dazhaojia, tumenlou, wangjiachong, Changgang, Xilin, zhanchengjia, Dayan, Yutai, jiangpai, tiandian, Luoshan, Sanliqiao, guanwangzhai, Jingjuan, louzili, dashanbei, sanligang, tongbaiji, Dafan, zhangbeishan, lvjiazui, Maanshan and tiejianggang Yanlushan, zhangguolao, zhaijishan, guangshangang, Qifengshan, chenjiazhai 31 administrative villages.

Literature and art construction

There are more than ten small reservoirs in the town, such as Xinzhai, Xintian and Dabeishan. The main channel of jinshahe reservoir passes through the town. In 2005, the total economic output value of Ercheng town was 200 million yuan, and the per capita income of farmers was 1950 yuan. The main crops are rice, wheat and barley, and the main oil crops are peanut and rape. Also grow fruit, green tea, chestnut and so on.

Ercheng town is rich in rural cultural life. There is a cultural station and a cinema in the town, and cultural propaganda and film screening activities are often carried out. From the 1980s to the early 1990s, the town's semi professional troupe had been active in the county, and had the same reputation as Xinghua township's semi professional troupe. There are 2 shadow puppet troupes, 4 drummers and 3 peasant band in Ercheng town. Every year during the "May Day" and "July day" festivals, Ercheng town organizes and carries out literary and artistic performances and competitions. All units, enterprises and village groups have created rehearsal programs and actively participated in them, thus enlivening the local people's cultural life.

Among the numerous folk art forms in Ercheng Town, the ship picking dance has local characteristics. It consists of a woman in a boat and a man in a boat. An ugly woman shakes a fan. In the performance, the boatman and the boatman are affectionate. They express their love for each other in their lyrics, and are accompanied by the clown's gag and bold exaggeration, which makes the whole program lively and interesting. In 1977, Hong'an county held a performance to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the jute uprising. Ship picking dance was videotaped by the provincial TV station and broadcast in the special news. It was selected to perform in the third folk art festival of Hong'an County three times in a row.
