Macaomiao town is located at the south foot of Dabie Mountain. It is 36 km away from the Ancient City Huangzhou in the southwest and 21 km away from Tuanfeng in the West. It is 10 km away from Huangzhou railway station of Beijing Kowloon Railway. National Highway 318 and LiuJie highway meet in the town.

On July 24, 2019, macaomiao town was selected into the list of national strong agricultural towns in 2019.

The town got its name from its location. The market town is named after the temple. According to legend, a temple here was built long ago by the two surnames of Ma Cao. The three characters "Ma Cao Temple" were embedded on the door of the temple. Because it is located in the main traffic road, later people opened shops here, and gradually formed a market town. Macaomiao township was established in 1951, belonging to the Fifth District, Huilongshan District in 1956, zongluzui Guidance Group in 1957, Hongqi commune in 1958, zongluzui commune in 1959, and zongluzui commune in 1961. When the district was withdrawn and merged in 1975, Xueao commune in Tuanfeng District, baifushi commune and macaomiao commune in zongluzui District were merged into macaomiao commune. In 1984, it was changed to machaomiao town.

In 1991, Huanggang county was removed from the county to build a city, and the town belongs to Huangzhou City. In 1996, Huanggang district was removed from the area to build a prefecture level city. Huangzhou City was divided into Huangzhou District and Tuanfeng County, and the town belongs to Tuanfeng County of Huanggang City.
