Chiba town

Chiba town is located in the southern border of Jingnan, adjacent to Honghu in the East and the Yangtze River in the west, facing Yueyang City of Hunan Province across the river. It covers an area of 152 square kilometers (in 2019), with a cultivated area of 100000 Mu and a total population of 86658 (in 2019). It has jurisdiction over 5 administrative areas, 21 villages and 3 neighborhood committees. According to the ancient books, "the river flows down from the Jiangling, without mountains. It is very turbulent." In order to prevent the flood, the predecessors "opened the acupoints along the river (known as nine acupoints and thirteen in the history) to kill the river and the current of Suijiang river." Chiba was a acupoint before, which was called chisu acupoint in history. Later, because there was a water mouth of one foot eight inches, chisu became Chiba, and Chiba got its name. In 1958, Chiba commune was established. In 1975, Chiba commune was divided into Chiba commune and sanchou commune. Chiba district was merged into Chiba District in 1984, and Chiba town was built in 1987.

At the end of Tang Dynasty, there were people living near chibakou; in Song Dynasty, in order to avoid the wind and waves, the river merchant ships entered chibakou one after another, and went to Wuhan by inland river through Honghu Lake. Since then, chibakou has become more and more prosperous, gradually becoming a small street. Merchants have come in droves, and shops have been arranged in a competitive fashion. After the liberation, chibakou has gradually expanded as the headquarters of District, commune and town organs. It has built three "F" main streets, with a total length of 2400 meters, wide streets and elegant buildings. The market is active, and the total transaction amount of social goods reaches 80 million yuan. Chibakou is a beautiful town. Trees, fertile and flat land, roads extending in all directions, rivers and ports crisscrossing, the Yangtze River levee through the territory, like a green Great Wall.
