The origin of the name
According to the place name dictionary of the people's Republic of China, Hubei Province, Fenyan is located 24 kilometers northeast of Jianli County, beside Fenyan river. It is said that in ancient times, it was Yanguan, Sichuan salt and Huaihe Salt marketing area, so it was named after it. As a part of Guyun Mengze, it is not known when Fenyan became a market town because there is no clear history. It was the ancient Yanguan at the latest in the Three Kingdoms. This can be seen from the fact that Jianli County was set up in the first year of Wu Huangwu of the Three Kingdoms (222). As Fenyan was located on the Neijing River, it was a small village near the river at the beginning. The government set up a wharf here for Salt marketing. When the government saw that it was profitable, it set up a salt pass for management. This can be confirmed by the record in the history of the Ming Dynasty that the fifth Inspection Department of Fenyan was set up here, although it was the location of "the Department of salt dispute" (the inspection office was in charge of seizing illegal salt). Therefore, Sichuan salt has a good market, which is equal to Huai salt supported by the government. Taking the river as the boundary, Sichuan salt is sold in the north of the river and Huai salt is sold in the south of the river. That is to say, Sichuan salt is no longer going east and Huai salt is not going west. So it is called "Fen salt". Later, it was called Fenyan river. During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1820), the inspection department of Fenyan town and Fenyan River berth were set up here. Presumably, the market town has become a large-scale one. On the other hand, it is said that there were two mountains, Yinggan and Zilong, where the streams were rich in salt. After the vicissitudes, the two mountains were reduced to flat land, and the Yanjian was extinguished. Later generations all called it "flying away", so they called it "flying salt", and later changed its homonym to "Fen salt". In addition, there is Yanzhi River in the territory. It is said that Chen Youliang used this river fish to serve his concubine, so it is named. In 1975, Fenyan commune was set up, in 1984, Fenyan district was set up, and in 1987, Fenyan town was set up.
Sichuan salt helps Chu
As early as the pre Qin period, Sichuan salt from the Three Gorges area was used in Hubei Province, and Huai salt was not sold here until the Song Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, Huai salt in Huguang area dominated the whole country, which led to the unsalable sales of Sichuan salt. However, Sichuan salt flowing into the area was not banned and became private salt. Only in this way did the five inspection departments set up to fight against private salt. In the early Qing Dynasty, due to the influence of the war, the transportation and marketing of Huai salt stopped for a time, and Sichuan salt made a comeback, but it didn't last long. Huai salt recovered again in Kangxi and Yongzheng years. Except for shiheba County, the rest of Hubei salt was all Huai salt. According to the records of Lianghuai salt law annals, Jiaqing Hanyang county annals and Xuantong Hubei Tongzhi, Huai salt was transported from Yizheng, Jiangsu Province to the Yangtze River and arrived in Hankou In addition, there is a record that Huai salt was transported and sold to Zhujiahe in Jianli County in Zhengdian qiyanfa port, Volume 24 of Hubei Tongzhi. In the third year of Xianfeng (1853), the Taiping Army established its capital in Nanjing, and the transportation route from Huaiyan to Hubei was blocked. The Qing government ordered Sichuan salt to help Chu, which brought a golden opportunity for the development of Sichuan salt, which is known as "Sichuan salt to help Chu". Until the failure of the Taiping Revolution and the smooth flow of the Yangtze River, Huai salt could be transported, "Chu'an still belonged to Sichuan salt sales, although it had the name of Huai'an, it was not transported to Huai'an." Therefore, Sichuan salt and Huaihe salt were sold at the same time. In July 1937, the Anti Japanese war broke out, the coastal areas were occupied one after another, the production of sea salt was destroyed, and the transportation of Huai salt was blocked. In the spring of 1939, the national government increased the production and transportation of Sichuan salt, forming the second "Sichuan salt helping Chu" in history. This situation did not come to an end until after the Anti Japanese war.

In 1997, Fenyan town introduced a mushroom production project from Shanghai, invested 320000 yuan to build a new trial planting base of 15000 square meters. In 1998, it expanded to 28000 square meters, and achieved economic benefits of 1:1 input and output. In 1999, the government set up the stage, the farmers sang the opera, the stock management, the social financing, the cadres took the lead, and the departments supported. The scale increased sharply to 280000 square meters, which led to the rapid fission. In the following four years, it tripled, 560000 square meters in 2001, 1.2 million square meters in 2002, and the total scale reached 2.4 million square meters in August 2003. More than 2300 mushroom sheds and 28 production bases were built There are more than 3600 mushroom farmers participating in the production and operation of mushroom industry, forming a 100000 square meter zhouwan Mushroom Science and technology demonstration park, two 10 kilometer long mushroom corridors, and three mushroom plates of 500000 square meters each, which has created a strong development of ten farmers in the base. Rapid fission promotes the development of industrialization. In 2000, Wuhan kangzhiyuan Mushroom Industry Co., Ltd. was established, which became a leading enterprise in mushroom industry. Two new joint-stock entities, a strain factory with an annual output of 1 million bottles and a mushroom processing factory with an annual output of 4000 tons, have been built. In 2002, 12800 tons of fresh mushrooms were produced, 4000 tons of salted mushrooms and fresh mushrooms were processed, and the total output value of planting and processing was 56 million yuan, with a net profit of 17.8 million yuan. It has become a pillar industry for farmers to increase their income.
