Chaihu town

Chaihu town is subordinate to Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province. It is 20 kilometers south of Zhongxiang City. It borders Changtan town in the East, Shipai town and Wenji town across the river in the west, jiukou town in the south, and Jiuli Hui Township and Nanhu cotton seed farm in the north.

Chaihu town has a total area of 154.3 square kilometers. In 2013, it has 54 administrative villages and 1 community with a total population of 109672 (2017). In 2013, the total industrial and agricultural output value of the town was 4.3206 billion yuan.

Historical evolution

In 1935, a flood broke out in the upper reaches of the Hanjiang River, and there were 18 breakouts of the Hanjiang River levee, which washed the Donghu Lake in the east of the river into a state of glory. In July 1949, after the establishment of Zhongxiang County, Chaihu area was under the jurisdiction of Shipai District of Zhongxiang county. In 1966, the state built a reservoir at Danjiangkou, and 45000 people migrated from Xichuan County, Henan Province to Shuihu to establish a "Xinjian" people's commune. In April 1967, Xinji people's commune was transformed into a new district. In 1968, the new district was renamed Dachaihu district. In November 1975, Dachaihu district was abolished and Dachaihu people's commune was established. In March 1984, Dachaihu people's commune was abolished and Dachaihu district was established. In October 1987, Dachaihu district was abolished and Chaihu town was established.
