Historical evolution

Honghuatao town is located at the southern foot of Jingmen mountain, a famous historical and cultural mountain. In ancient times, in the middle of the Yangtze River, there was a river (a sandbank surrounded by river water) with red flowers in full bloom, so it was named "Honghuatao". Later, the Yangtze River Channel moved northward, and the Nanhe river channel was gradually silted up. People reclaimed the island for farmland, built embankments for flood control, and opened up the safflower cover into a rich fertile soil. Through the development and changes of generations, Honghuatao has evolved from a village into a famous town. in the long history, the present Honghuatao town area, together with the qinglinsi township area before September 1987 and the area under the jurisdiction of gugubei street and Yunchi street in Yiting District of Yichang City, has long been a whole administrative division under the jurisdiction of Yidu county. Before September 1987, Honghuatao town had jurisdiction over six townships, namely Wujiagang, Caijiachong, qinglinsi, Jingqiao, Changqing and yanjiatuo, with 29 villages and one neighborhood committee. In September 1987, Yidu City withdrew the districts and merged the townships. Six townships under the jurisdiction of the former Honghuatao town were abolished and divided into Honghuatao town and zengjiagang township. The former Wujiagang, Caijiachong and yanjiatuo townships were retained in Honghuatao town.
