Cangfang town is located in the east foot of Qinling Mountain, the junction of Southwest Henan and northwest Hubei, the West Bank peninsula of Danjiangkou reservoir, the source of the middle route of South to North Water Diversion, 75 km away from the southwest end of Xichuan County, shigu town of Danjiangkou City in Hubei Province in the West and shengwan town in the north. It integrates mountainous area, reservoir area and remote area. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. It has a land area of 155.68 square kilometers (2017), cultivated land of 26000 mu, 10735 people (2017), 12 administrative villages, 3250 households, 122 villager groups, and annual per capita net income of 4800 yuan. Cangfang got its name because Wang Mang banished Liu Xiutun to gather grain in the late Western Han Dynasty. The forest area accounts for 68% of the land area.
Name and origin
Liu Xiu, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, once stationed troops here and built warehouses to store grain.
Evolution of administrative districts
The Ming Dynasty belonged to Leishan, Shunyang of Xichuan County, Baonan and Shiqiao of Neixiang County. In the Qing Dynasty, Bao was changed to Li. In 1909, it was transferred to the fifth section of the East Second District of Xichuan County (liguanqiao), under the jurisdiction of 19 Bao. In 1938, it was changed to Lu.
