During the period of the Republic of China, Linxi town belonged to the Ninth District of Linqing county.
In 1958, it was called tongcun commune, belonging to Linqing County, Liaocheng district, Shandong Province.
In 1964, it was assigned to Xingtai special district of Hebei Province, belonging to Linxi Working Committee.
March 1965, Linxi County.
In May 1984, it was changed into Chengguan town; in August of the same year, it was changed into Linxi town.
