Laixi economic development zone was established on June 18, 1992. It is located in the middle of five major open cities of Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai, Weifang and Rizhao. It is 60km away from Qingdao International Airport and 90km away from Qingdao port in the south, 110km away from Yantai port in the East, and connected with inland by Laiwei expressway, Tongsan Expressway and Qingyin Expressway in the West and North. In October 1993, zhougezhuang township was abolished and zhougezhuang town was established. In 1996, it covers an area of 43.6 square kilometers and has a population of 21000.
