Xinjian township was established in 1956, xingangshan commune was renamed in 1958, Xinjian commune was restored in 1983, and township was restored in 1984. In 1997, it covers an area of 137 square kilometers and has a population of 13000. It has jurisdiction over five administrative villages, namely Xinjian, Xikeng, tiquan, Banqiao and Qijia.
