Changzhou township is located in the southeast of Poyang County, Zhiguan County, Jiangxi Province, and on the alluvial banks in the middle and lower reaches of Changjiang River. It is a Polder Township surrounded by water on all sides, with a total length of 36 km. There are 6 electric drainage and irrigation stations in the polder, with a total area of 23.8 square kilometers and a permanent population of 33640 (2017). It governs 15 administrative villages of Beiwang, Xiaodu, Beifeng, Beihu, Beixing, Yonglin, Yongping, Dongping, Qilin, Nanlin, Nanchen, Nanhu, Mahu, Fengzui and Nanfan. The township government is located in Yongping street, and there is a highway connecting Tianle highway.

Changzhou township is under the jurisdiction of Poyang County, a county directly under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province. It has 15 administrative villages including Beiwang, Xiaodu, Beifeng, Beihu, Beixing, Yonglin, Yongping, Dongping, Qilin, Nanlin, Nanchen, Nanhu, Mahu, Fengzui and Nanfan. The township government is located in Yongping Street, and there is a road connecting Tianle road. It is said that this place was originally a piece of land on the shore of Poyang Lake. In the middle of the Tang Dynasty, some people moved here and built embankments to reclaim it. Now it is a continent surrounded by Changjiang River, so it is also called Zhongzhou. Before liberation, it belonged to six districts (sixiling) Huaiyi Township, and after liberation it belonged to four districts (guxiandu). It was the fourth and Fifth District in 1953, guxiandu District in 1958 and Zhongzhou commune in guxiandu District in 1961. In 1968, the district was withdrawn and merged into Dongfeng commune with miaojian. In 1973, it was changed into Zhongzhou commune. The township was changed in 1984 and Changzhou township was renamed in 1985. In 1997, it covers an area of 28.3 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 33640 (in 2017). It governs 15 administrative villages including Xiaodu, Beifeng, Beiwang, Beihu, Beixing, Yonglin, Yongping, Dongping, Qilin, Nanlin, Nanchen, Nanhu, Mahu, Fengzui and Nanfan. The township government is located in Yongping street, 13 kilometers away from the county.
