Village culture
Makou village, about 40 kilometers to the north of Zhanggong District, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, was built in the Northern Song Dynasty. It is divided into upper and lower families. Most of the 200 households are named Zhongwu village, also known as Zhongwu village. It is a typical Hakka village. Surrounded by mountains, the village has preserved a large number of ancient local buildings, such as stone streets, ancient alleys, green bricks and tiles, carved beams and painted buildings, with a strong cultural atmosphere. More than 30 camphor trees and banyan trees have been growing around the village for more than 100 years.
In April 2004, a Qing Dynasty "anti logging treaty" was found in Makou village. The convention was carved on a huge rock near the village stream. The rock is about 3 meters high and 2 meters wide, standing upright in the water. It is engraved with the words "trees around the water mouth, no illegal cutting, if there is a breach of the contract, the two gates will not be forgiven, and the family will not be allowed to be white", and the date is "May 9, the 60th year of Kangxi". Palm size words, vigorous and powerful, vaguely visible. According to the analysis of Shang Shouqing, assistant director of Ganzhou Museum, judging from the strokes and impressions of the inscriptions, the "Convention" was written during the reign of Kangxi. In order to protect this lush forest, the local Hakka people set up a monument at the eye-catching place on the edge of the forest, which is a spontaneous act of the people, not an official inscription. However, the discovery of this inscription further proves that the Hakkas knew how to protect forests, maintain ecological balance and coordinate the development of human and nature. Such well preserved inscriptions will play an important witness role in the study of Hakka culture.
