Xuanfeng Town, subordinate to Luxi County, Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the east of Pingxiang City, connecting Xicun town of Yichun City in the East, Luxi town in the west, Wanlongshan Township in the South and Yinhe town in the north, with a total area of 99.6 square kilometers. Xuanfeng town governs 13 administrative villages and 2 communities. In late 2018, there were 39 thousand and 100 registered residence households in Xuan Feng town.

Xuanfeng town is a big border trade town connecting Yichun and Pingxiang. National Highway 320, Zhejiang Jiangxi railway, Hangzhou Changsha high speed railway and luwanwu tourist highway pass through Xuanfeng town. In 1950, it was changed to Xuanfeng district; in 1968, Xuanfeng, Hexia, Yiyuan communes, Xuanfeng town and Dongfeng fishery farm were merged into Xuanfeng town Revolutionary Committee; in 1973, Hexia commune was transferred to Luxi district; in 1981, Xuanfeng was changed to Xuanfeng Town People's government.

Xuanfeng town is located in the east of Pingxiang City, close to Yichun city. It is known as the east gate of Pingxiang City. It connects Yichun City in the East, Luxi town in the west, Wanlongshan town in the South and Yinhe town in the north. The total area is 99.6 square kilometers.

Xuanfeng town is high in the South and low in the north. In the south, Tanshan, Yiyuan, Matang, Lishan and longxia belong to mountainous terrain, with steep mountains and overlapping mountains. Jingkou and tuxia in the middle are hilly areas with round hillsides and fertile soil. In the north, it belongs to the upper plain of Yuanhe River, from Zhuting to Zhuyuan, with farmland and villages. Yiyuan River, a tributary of Yuan River, originates from Wugong mountains and flows to Huangzhou reservoir in the territory. From south to north, it flows through Yiyuan River, Jingkou River and Pantian River and joins Yuan river at Hongqiao. Yiyuan river through the place, or for the valley basin, or for the long Tian Qian. The highest place in the town is niuxingli, 907 meters above sea level. Among them, pailou Yiyuan section was built by Xuanfeng commune and Yiyuan commune in 1962; Yiyuan Huangzhou section was built by Xuanfeng town in 1978; Huangzhou Dongkeng section was built by state-owned Wanlongshan reclamation farm in 1981; from 1998 to 2000, the state and local governments invested 3.85 million yuan to rebuild the whole section into cement pavement with a width of 4.5 meters and a thickness of 22 cm. In October 2018, the national highway 320 to Lishan was opened to traffic. In 2019, roads from Shangli to Xuanfeng, pailou to Wanlongshan, Xuanfeng Industrial Park to luwanwu will be opened to traffic, and the traffic of the whole town will be greatly improved.

History and culture

The origin of place names

Xuanfeng town has a long history. It was called "Xianfeng" in ancient times and got its name from "the scenic spot of fairyland and the habitat of Phoenix". Jiezi mountain used to be near the market town. At that time, the ancient trees were towering, the forest was luxuriant, and the scenery was beautiful. Pingfeng mountain chess stone in the south of Jingkou is said to be a place for immortals to play chess in the wind. There are still chess pieces left. It is said that at the beginning of the Eastern Han Dynasty (26th year), a scholar went to Beijing to take an exam. He stopped here to have a rest and said with emotion, "it's really a fairyland scenic spot.". From then on, people used to call it "Xianfeng". According to the records of Zhaoping, during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Zheng chundian, the magistrate, rebuilt the post station into a "mansion" named Xuanfeng mansion, so the original "Xianfeng" gradually evolved into "Xuanfeng".

Red Culture

Xuanfeng town is an old revolutionary base. During the first Civil Revolutionary War, it was the center of transportation between Yiping county and Pingbei county. It was also a traffic line from Pingbei Red Army to Jinggangshan. During the second Civil Revolutionary War, Yao binshan organized "Pingdong Red Guards" and held Pingdong uprising under the instruction of Zhejiang Jiangxi provincial Party committee. Peng Dehuai visited Xuanfeng twice in November 1929 and March 1930 to direct the revolutionary war. In March 1930, Peng Dehuai led the main force of the Red Army into Xuanfeng, where the Soviet government and the red guards were successively established. In the winter of 1930, Peng Dehuai fought against the invading Anwu army in pailou Jingkou, Hongqiao Shanbei and Chayuan zigualing, and then built the "monument of Jiankou martyrs" at Jiankou, Pantian village. During the Civil Revolutionary War, there were 172 martyrs who died for the revolution in Xuanfeng town.

Local specialties

Xuanfeng town is a land of fish and rice in Pingxiang City and one of the important agricultural production areas in Luxi County. Rich in rice, melons and fruits, Camellia oleifera, vegetables and so on. Since the reform and opening up, the agricultural industrial structure has been constantly adjusted, diversified operation, project upgrading and scale upgrading. Off season greenhouse vegetables, many kinds of melons and fruits, a wide variety of flowers and bonsai, with a certain scale of family duck farm, chicken farm, cattle farm, fish farm and so on, can be found everywhere. Agricultural products processing is the traditional product of Xuanfeng. As early as the Qing Dynasty, rice wine made from rice is quite famous. Xuanfeng rice wine has always been the main wine used for family banquets in Luxi County. In addition, there are Mazi, Zha powder, salted duck and so on, which are local products here.

In 2001, Xuanfeng town was named "the hometown of flowers and trees in China" by the State Forestry Administration and China Flower Association.
