Xiadu town

Xia Du Town, Shanghang County, Longyan City, Fujian Province, is located in the southwest of Shanghang county. The Ting River runs through the territory, covering an area of 103.05 square kilometers, with a registered residence of about 11 thousand and 500 people (2018), and 11 administrative villages (October 2019).

Historical evolution

In 1964, it belonged to Zhongdu commune.

In 1984, it belonged to Zhongdu township.

In July 1986, it was separated from Zhongdu Township and set up Xiadu township.

On May 11, 2015, Xiadu township was removed and Xiadu town was established.

Xiadu town is located in the southwest of Shanghang County, in the middle and lower reaches of Mianhuatan reservoir area, at the junction of five counties and eight towns in Fujian and Guangdong provinces, adjacent to Yongding District, Meixian district and Jiaoling County in Meizhou city of Guangdong Province, 40 kilometers away from Shanghang County, covering an area of 103.05 square kilometers.

Economics

In Xiadu Town, rice, tobacco and vegetables are mainly used in the fields; lean meat pigs, pheasants, fish flowers and river fish are mainly used in animal husbandry and fishery; Shatian pomelo, hangmei and tea are mainly used in the hills. Up to 2000, the target of planting 10 thousand mu Shatian pomelo base has been completed, with an annual output of more than 200 tons.

Xiadu town is rich in all kinds of pomelo, mainly Shatian pomelo. The pomelo planting area of the whole town is nearly ten thousand mu. Shatian pomelo has been introduced from Guangxi in 1986 and has grown to more than 6100 mu. In Xianglan, Shamu and Xinzhai villages, we have developed and planted three Shatian pomelo science and technology planting demonstration bases with an area of more than 1000 mu. The total output of pomelo in the town has reached more than 8000 tons, and the output value of pomelo processing and sales has reached more than 50 million yuan.

Xiadu Zhenhuang bamboo shoot is a kind of high-quality dry product, which is rich in South Shedu river section of the middle reaches of Tingjiang River. In the spring of 1907, Qiu Fengjia, a national hero, educator and patriotic poet, returned to Huangkeng (now Huangxi village, Xiadu town) where he lived to find his roots and pay homage to his ancestors. He wrote a poem praising Huang bamboo shoots: "Huang bamboo shoots in Huangkeng are well-known in the past, but I regret that they were not born when I came here. He is the master and looks at the bamboo, and has a green trip.". With the impoundment and power generation of Mianhuatan reservoir, Xiadu town has become the main reservoir area. The Party committee and government of the town mobilized the people in the reservoir area to plant bamboo shoots and bamboos on a large scale, and the whole town planted more than 7000 mu of edible bamboo shoots and bamboos. There are two edible bamboo shoot processing plants in the town, with an annual sales value of over 30 million yuan.

There are more than 5000 people in five administrative villages, including Wufeng, Xinzhai, Huangxi, Haokang and Sanyi, in the Miandian reservoir area of Xiadu town. There are abundant water resources in the reservoir area, covering an area of more than 6000 mu. There are abundant fish resources, and the people in the reservoir area have rich experience in fish breeding and fishing.

In Xiadu Town, Renyi line (from Rentian of Shanghang to Nanyi of Guangdong) and Fengmian line (from Xiadu of Zhongdu county to Hongshan Township of Yongding) are the main traffic trunk roads, which are 17 km away from Lufeng exit of Yonghang Expressway and 24 km away from Rentian exit.

The nanshedu bridge, completed in 2002, was the main road for Huangxi village, Haokang village and Sanyi village to reach xiaduji town. It was the highest river crossing bridge in Fujian Province at that time.

History and culture

Red Culture

Xiadu town is a holy land of red earth. During the revolutionary war, the masses of Xiadu actively joined the army and supported the revolution. At that time, General Liu Yongsheng led the column of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces to active activities in Xiadu. There are five revolutionary base villages (natural villages) in the town, including Sanyi, aoxia, snake shaped Zhaibei, Haokang and Huangxi. Huangxi village is the birthplace of Qiu family in East China and the ancestral home of Qiu Fengjia, a famous patriotic poet and patriot of Taiwan in Qing Dynasty. In Xinzhai village, there is a "county-level cultural relic protection unit", a "centenary memorial archway" made in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, which still stands tall after a hundred years. There are two ancient Hakka houses in the town, namely Yuanquan house in Shamu village and Shude hall in Haokang village. Among them, "Shude hall" is rated as "county-level cultural relics protection unit".

The origin of town name

In Zhongdu, it is said that in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, local gentlemen raised money to build "Guadun polder" at the Chen ancestral temple in the south of gangzhai. After 150-170 years, another man built a Literary Museum under Xinggang village, which is not far from guadunwei. It looks like a small capital city. The surrounding area is vast and the population is concentrated, so it is called "Zhongdu". Later, it was divided into Shangdu, Zhongdu and Xiadu according to the terrain and water flow direction.
