Fotan town
Fotan is an ancient town with a long history. There used to be a clear pond at the foot of Furong mountain, reflecting a natural rock like Buddha's head on the top of the mountain. It was called Fotan and even became a place name. The bridge across the Hongru river is called Fotan bridge. Later, the name of the bridge became a place name.
As early as the Tang Dynasty, Chen Yuanguang, the "Kaizhang" governor, had written the magnificent poem "Xiaofa Fotan bridge". At that time, Chen Yuanguang decided to set up Zhangzhou and Zhangpu County, and set up the Xingtai in four areas, among which the dongxingtai was located in Fotan bridge in Zhangpu County. From the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, the official documents and local chronicles all called Fotan town Fotan bridge. The masses mistakenly called it "Funan bridge", and it was abbreviated as Fotan. In the early years of the Republic of China, Fotan was written as Fotan, which is still in use today.
In 2017, the administrative area was 8035 hectares, with a permanent population of 57754.

Infrastructure
In 1931, Zhangpu government supervised private automobile road company, with overseas Chinese Yang Chunmei as its chairman, built the road from Fotan to Jiuzhen. Chen Zhaoxin presided over the road from Xiakeng to Maping, and LAN Qiujin presided over the road from Fotan to Huxi. It was opened to traffic and was damaged during the Anti Japanese War. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, in January 1955, a highway was built from the old town to yuzaiwei via Fotan and qianting, and then to the urban area of Xiamen. In the second half of 1986, the highway from Xiangcheng District of Zhangzhou to Futan via Shima, Fugong, fengcundouling and qianting was built, connecting with the highway from Futan via Jiuzhen, duxun to Yunxiao and Dongshan, which is called Zhangdong line and belongs to provincial highway. There are also many county roads connecting Fotan with the whole county. One is the "San fo line" from Fotan through guanxun to Sangu, which is connected with National Highway 324. It was built in 1968. The first is the huofo line, which is connected with Shanjiu line from Fotan through Huxi and Chitu to Huoshaopu. It was built in 1975. One is the "Foma line" from Fotan to Maping, which was built in 1979 and opened from Maping to Baishui town in 1990. Fotan also has many other rural roads connecting all parts of the town and neighboring towns. In 2000, the sea crossing highway from dongban to Daisong was built, 900 meters long. In 2001, a 3 km long highway was built from the Huxi interchange of Zhangzhao Expressway in the town.
From the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the transportation of Fotan was mainly water transportation. Originally, it was sailboats. Later, there was a steamship "Tanjiang" with a load of 100 loads, which made a daily trip to Xiamen. In May 1938, Xiamen was occupied by the Japanese army. A blockade line was built in Haikou, Southern Fujian. Tanjiang was requisitioned by Fujian military and political authorities of the Kuomintang and sunk in Sanjiangkou, Hanjiang, Putian. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the merchants of Fotan purchased the steamer liuao, Hemei and Qiaotong to resume the sea transportation, and were requisitioned by the Kuomintang army at the time of liberation. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Fotan wharf trade union formed a transportation service company in 1950 to engage in maritime transportation. It developed to five wooden sailboats and one motorized cement ship. Most of them sank in typhoons, and the transportation service company turned to bus transportation. In the 1980s, the construction of fish and shrimp breeding ponds was on the upsurge. Fotan port has become a breeding area, and the port road is blocked, so it can no longer be transported by ships. In 1992, the province invested 420000 yuan, and the town invested 290000 yuan to build a wharf in dabaishi, Daisong and Zhengmei respectively, so as to facilitate the docking of fishing boats and ferries.
The farmland of Dongye, Xiakeng, dongban and other villages in this town and the villages in qianting town have been irrigated by the combined irrigation channels of shiguopi and chilanxi type 2 reservoirs built in March 1959 and November 1966 respectively. More importantly, since the completion of Yangmei reservoir in September 1972, it has a storage capacity of 55.3 million cubic meters. It is connected with shiguopi and chilanxi reservoirs to form an irrigation network. It has become a key water conservancy project in Futan and qianting towns, changing the lack of fresh water in the past. Futan town especially relies on the right irrigation canal of Yangmei reservoir for irrigation. In 1992, the right main canal extended from houhori to Dongxiong community of houhori village. There are two small (II) reservoirs in the town: Shuihou reservoir, built in dongban village in July 1958, with a capacity of 210000 cubic meters; kengni reservoir, built in Shimen village in May 1960, with a capacity of 720000 cubic meters.
In 1988, the tap water town government set up a self-service water supply system with a daily water supply of 3000 tons
