Located in the north of Hanjiang District, Putian City, Fujian Province, next to Wuxiu Road, 202 provincial road, Gulu town is 19 kilometers away from Putian City, 9 kilometers away from the main urban area of Hanjiang River, and 9 kilometers away from 324 National Highway. It is the first town to enter Putian, Yongtai and other mountainous areas in central Fujian Province. It has always been known as "the head of mountainous area and the tail of plain". The original Suzhou Tianli and anxianli of Wenxiu Township in Putian County were cut off to Fuqing County in Ming Dynasty. They are the middle and west of Yuxi town in Fuqing City today (connecting with Gulu town and Xinxian town in Putian City), and the middle and west of Dongzhang town (connecting with Gulu Town, Xinxian town and Dayang town in Putian City).

Putian County borders on the northeast. For thousands of years, it has been at least at the junction of Suanling and Fuqing in the north of Xincuo Town, Putian County. Most of Xincuo still use Putian dialect, which is a part of Putian dialect area. Only the two northernmost villages are assimilated by Fuqing dialect. Xincuo town is located in the northeast end of Putian, which used to be the Northeast gate of Putian. Not only Putian dialect is used in this town, but also some villages in the West and east of the towns in the north and east of the town retain Putian dialect.
