The origin of the name

Gongji temple is located 30 Li southwest of the line. It is said that during the spring and Autumn period, King Ling of Chu (540-526 B.C.) went to the north and built many palaces in the area from today's chudianji to Gongji temple. Later, many temples were built, which was named Gongji temple. Later generations, because of its topography, such as chicken, "Gong Ji" and "rooster" sound harmonic, and gradually known as Rooster temple. After liberation, it was changed into Gongji temple.

According to ancient legend, gongjisi town in Guoyang County, which had just experienced the hardships of war, ushered in another disaster during the Hongwu Period of the Ming Dynasty. In the summer of this year, there was a rare locust plague, and the fields were covered with locusts almost overnight. Seeing that there was no harvest and the people were in danger of starvation, the Jade Emperor felt pity and decided to send Jigong Daxian to rescue the people. After arriving at gongjisi Town, Jigong Daxian settled down in a Zheshu tree that has been growing for more than 100 years. Jigong Daxian then used his magic power to let the locusts who were rampant against the grass and seedlings fly to the Zheshu tree one after another. Strangely enough, as soon as the locusts fell on the tree, they were killed immediately. Seeing this, the villagers knew that this Zheshu tree was not an ordinary tree, but must have been possessed by a God. They built a temple in front of this tree and named it Gongji Temple (as time goes by, Gongji temple is called Gongji Temple by later generations, which is the origin of the name of Gongji temple town). People go to Gongji Temple next to the tree to burn incense, fire, kowtow and pray every Mid Autumn Festival or Spring Festival Peace. Now in front of this Zheshu tree, people still build a small temple to worship the great immortal.
