Duanyuan town belongs to Duji District of Huaibei City. It is located at 117 ° 02 '- 117 ° 02' east longitude, 34 ° 13 '- 34 ° 13' north latitude, at the junction of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces and counties. It is 10km away from Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province in the East, bounded by Dapeng Town, Tongshan District, Xuzhou City and Yidi of Hanwang Township, 7km away from Xiaoxian city in the west, bordering Longcheng town in Xiaoxian County in the north, West and south, and 40km away from Huaibei City in the southwest. Duanyuan town is 17 kilometers away from Xuzhou port, 60 kilometers away from Xuzhou Guanyin Airport, and 230 kilometers away from Lianyungang. It is the nearest area to the sea in Anhui Province. It is close to the entrance and exit of Lianhuo and hexu expressways. National Highway 311 and Fujia line of Xufu railway pass through. It is known as the "north gate of Anhui".

Historical evolution
Duanyuan town historically belonged to Longcheng District of Xiaoxian county. In 1950, the first district of Xiaoxian county (Longcheng District) set up a township, and duanyuan town belonged to Maozhuang township.

In April 1984, Maozhuang commune and Niumian commune were put under the jurisdiction of Duji district. At the same time, the system reform was carried out. The abandoned commune of Maozhuang commune was changed into Maozhuang Township, and Niumian commune was changed into Niumian township. In December of the same year, Maozhuang township was changed into duanyuan town.
In March 1992, Niumian township was merged into duanyuan town.
