Ma Zonghan
This is a poem written by Ma Zonghan, the martyr of the 1911 Revolution, when he was 16 years old. It expresses the author's unusual ambition. Ma Zonghan, formerly known as Chunchang, also known as zonghanzi, was born on March 30, 1884, and now lives in Han street and village. He studied in Dashan School of Yuyao since childhood, and communicated with people with national integrity to overthrow the feudal rule of Qing Dynasty.
In 1902, Ma Zonghan was admitted to Zhejiang University. He began to get in touch with revolutionary thoughts and met a lot of hot-blooded young people. In March of the next year, he dropped out of school for taking part in a student strike. In the thirtieth year of Guangxu, he reluctantly obeyed the orders of his grandfather and father and was admitted as a scholar in Jiachen year. However, he had no intention of becoming an official and returned to Hushan to teach in sanshanmeng school for two years. During this period, in addition to supervising students with democratic revolutionary thought, he also bought revolutionary books and periodicals from other places and distributed them to the countryside for many times, doing a lot of work to expand the revolutionary influence and spread revolutionary fire.
In September of the 31st year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Xu Xilin founded Datong school in Shaoxing. Ma Zonghan went to study and joined the restoration society. In January 1906, Xu Xilin, Chen Boping and others went to Japan with him to study military technology and get ready for Tokyo Waseda University to accept bourgeois revolutionary thought. In April of the 32nd year of Guangxu, he returned home with Xu and Chen. Under the cover of his teaching career, he carried out revolutionary activities in his hometown and met Qiu Jin. In the spring of the 33rd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Xu Xilin had donated Anhui Taoist officials as planned, and entered the Qing government to invite Ma Zonghan to join the Anqing uprising. Ma Zonghan was so excited that he said goodbye to the students on June 10: "I can't destroy the prisoners in this trip. I will never return." He went to Anqing with Chen Boping in Shanghai. At this time, Xu Xilin has been promoted to the office of the patrol police department and the office of the patrol police academy, and has agreed with Qiu Jin to operate simultaneously in Anhui and Zhejiang on the graduation ceremony of the patrol police academy on July 8. After Ma Zonghan arrived, he began to observe the terrain and get familiar with personnel. On June 22, at Xu's order, Ma and Chen returned to Shanghai to discuss with Qiu Jin and purchase weapons. On July 5, Ma Zonghan and Chen Boping rushed back to Anqing. Because the graduation ceremony of the patrol Academy was changed to be held on July 6, the time of the uprising was forced to advance. That night, the three decided to assassinate governor Enming first the next day, then catch all the other leaders, and then lead the patrolman to occupy the ordnance station. At 10 a.m. on July 6, when the graduation ceremony began, Xu Xilin announced in a loud voice: "the revolutionary party is in trouble today!" Then he fired at Enming. At the same time, Ma Zonghan and Chen Boping rushed into the hall and shot. Enming was killed that day. Then he occupied the armory and was surrounded by the Qing army. At 4:00 p.m., Chen Boping died and Xu Xilin was captured because of the great disparity between the masses. Ma Zonghan was ordered by Xu to cross the wall and sneak out. In the middle of the journey, he stood up to show his identity and was arrested in order not to harm the innocent people. Ma Zonghan was severely poisoned in prison. On August 24, he was killed in Anqing prison. He was only 24 years old. The local people secretly collected the body and sent the coffin to their hometown for burial in shijiashan. After the success of the revolution of 1911, the remains were sent to Hangzhou and buried with Xu and Chen at the southern foot of Gushan, known as the "tombs of the three martyrs". In 1981, the tomb of the three martyrs was moved to nantianzhu, Hangzhou, and was admired by thousands of people.
