Wenyan Street

Wenyan street is located in the west of Xiaoshan District, adjacent to the confluence of Qiantang River, Fuchun River and Puyang River, Chengxiang street and Shushan street in the East, Qiantang River in the west, Yiqiao town in the south, Binjiang District in the north, and Hangzhou city across the river. The water and land transportation is very convenient. Historically, it is known as the "Three River living wharf". It is one of the first satellite towns in Zhejiang Province to open to the outside world. Wenyan sub district office is located at No. 3368, Xianghu Road, covering an area of 26.75 square kilometers. It governs six administrative villages and five residential communities, with a population of 70000.

On July 29, 2020, the National Patriotic Health Association decided to name Wenyan street as a national health township for the period of 2017-2019.

Historical evolution

Wenyan is also known as wenjiayan. In the old days, it was said that a Wen family began to settle down in Xijiang Tangyan, which was built in the early days. Wenyan street is also named after wenjiayan natural street.

In 1951, it was divided into Chang'an Township, Wenyan Township, Xianghu Township, Huangshan Township, Shanhe Township and Shanhou township.

In 1956, except Shanhe Township and Shanhou Township, other townships were merged into Wenyan township.

Wenyan management area of Changhe commune was established in 1958.

In 1961, it was changed into Wenyan commune, and then Wenyan town was set up.

In 1969, when the district was withdrawn and the commune was merged, part of the brigade of yuanshanhe commune in Wenyan town was assigned to Wenyan commune.

Wenyan Township in 1984.

It was changed to Wenyan town in June 1985.

On March 28, 2014, the 20th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 15th National People's Congress of Xiaoshan District in Hangzhou approved the adjustment of administrative divisions, which will abolish Wenyan town and establish Wenyan sub district office.
