Pomegranate street, located in Donghai County, Jiangsu Province, was officially established in 2013. 2013 zoning adjustment: Pomegranate town was abolished, and pomegranate sub district office was established. After adjustment, its administrative area is 79.89 square kilometers, with a population of 43500 people. Pomegranate street has a long history, initially called "pomegranate tree". It is said that there was a flood at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, and a small pomegranate tree floated along with the water. After the flood, the small pomegranate tree fell and took root in today's pomegranate town. Later, after the vicissitudes of wind and rain, the tree still had luxuriant branches and leaves, fragrant flowers and fruits. The local people thought that they were predestined by this tree, so they named the place "pomegranate tree". From 1951 to 1952, it was the seat of Donghai County Party committee and county government. "Pomegranate tree" has successively established Pomegranate Tree Township, pomegranate people's Commune and pomegranate township; in 1994, it was approved by the provincial government to withdraw the township and build a town; in January 2013, it was approved by the higher authorities to set up pomegranate sub district office. In July 2001, in accordance with the requirements of the higher authorities, the work of merging villages was carried out, including canceling Shiliu village, merging into Dongliu village, canceling zhuanshuihong village, merging into Liuwang village, canceling Libai village, merging into Jiangzhuang village, canceling Xima village and merging into Shixi village. In August 2001, the original 22 villages in the town were reduced to 18 villages. In 2010, the town has 18 administrative villages and 156 villager groups with a total population of 60019, including 56800 agricultural population and 3219 non-agricultural population. Pomegranate is a famous "vegetable town". The area of multiple cropping of vegetables is 30000 mu. At present, there are 165 industrial enterprises in the whole street, forming seven series of more than 130 kinds of products, including quartz glass, silicon carbide, mechanical electronics, building materials, lighting equipment, wood panels, fused quartz, etc., with nearly 50 export products. The products are exported to more than 10 countries and regions, with an annual export supply of more than 100 million yuan.
Labor export is a major feature of pomegranate. At present, 14200 people are engaged in labor service at home and abroad, including more than 11000 people at home and 3100 people abroad. The income of labor export in the whole street reached 130 million yuan.

Pomegranate history

During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Zhang Qian was sent to the western regions for the first time. The route is the south route of the silk road. When they arrived at Dayue's Kingdom, they agreed to attack Xiongnu together. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty sent Huo Qubing, a great general, to fight for the west, and ordered Zhang Qian to be a pioneer. Soon after, he fought for the Hexi corridor. In the 13th year of his reign in the western regions, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty sent Zhang Qian to the western regions again for his meritorious service in the expedition. The route he took was now known as the silk road. Zhang Qian made many contributions to the western regions when he was sent to China. Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty made Zhang Qian a "Bowang Marquis" and made Bowang of Dong'an County, Donghai County his fief. Zhang Qian was in Bowang village, now pomegranate street, where he cultivated the precious melons and fruits brought from the western regions. He chose to plant the first pomegranate tree in the south of Dong'an, which is now pomegranate tree village. Later, as a memorial, pomegranate Township got its name. Zhang Qian developed a pomegranate garden about ten li long and five li wide for emperors and dignitaries to taste pomegranates. Here is a silted plain, with clear river and fertile land. In a few years, pomegranate garden is full of branches and leaves and fruits, which attracts emperors and dignitaries to visit and taste pomegranates in the East China Sea. Zhang Qian transported pomegranates, watermelons and grapes to Kyoto. After a long period of time, mountain torrents broke out in Maling mountain, which destroyed pomegranate garden, and Bowang city began to decline. It is said that later, a man named Peng Bawang occupied Bowang city. He thought the geomantic omen here was bad and ordered to move Bowang city to Haizhou. With a single order, 40000 soldiers were arranged in one word, from Bowang to Haizhou. You pass me to take over. You move all the bricks of a city to Haizhou overnight, and build Haizhou city. Therefore, there has always been a saying among the people that "first there is hope, then there is Haizhou".
