In Zuo Qiuming's Zuo Zhuan, the third year of Yin Gong: "pride, extravagance, lust, and loss are all caused by evil."
Idiom usage

Idioms and allusions
In the spring and Autumn period, Wei zhuanggong, the king of the state of Wei, doted on his son Zhou Xu. When he grew up, Zhou Xu was very willful, leading a licentious life, making trouble everywhere and being bossy. Zhuang Gong also let it go and never strictly discipline it. Shi Qi, a doctor of the state of Wei, advised Zhuang Gong: "I heard that a father loves his children and should educate him with morality and not let him go astray. Arrogance, luxury, debauchery, easy habits, all come from evil. The reason for these bad habits is that parents love them too much. " Weizhuanggong didn't follow the doctor's advice, and zhouxu became worse and worse. Soon after Zhuang Gong died, the crown prince Ji Wan became the king of the country and was called Wei Huan Gong. In the spring of the next year, zhouxu killed his elder brother, Duke Huan, and made himself king. Zhou Xu was very cruel and had a bad reputation. He was strongly opposed by the people of Wei state. Less than a year after he usurped the throne, shicuo, together with Chen Guojun, conspired to kill zhouxu.
