A long time ago, there was a new daughter-in-law who had just passed the door. Although she is virtuous and industrious, her father-in-law and mother-in-law are always dissatisfied with her actions. One winter, her mother-in-law suddenly asked her daughter-in-law to make bamboo shoot Soup for her. The daughter-in-law promised to do it for her mother-in-law. After a while, she did it for her mother-in-law and sent it to the dinner table. Another daughter-in-law was very strange about this, and asked her, "it's cold winter. Where can I get the tender bamboo shoots?" the daughter-in-law said, "I'll promise first. I'll be respectful and obedient. I'll never be scolded by my mother-in-law.". There is really no place to find the tender bamboo shoots. This is the bamboo shoots I stored long ago. Soon after, her mother-in-law heard these words and felt that she was really unfair to her daughter-in-law, so she changed her attitude and began to show more love for her. From then on, the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law became better and better, and the whole family lived a happy life. According to this, the local people made up a doggerel: it's better to be respectful than obedient when you are trained. Later, the first two sentences were omitted, and the last two sentences were left behind, which became proverbs. It means: to show respect to a person is better than to comply with his meaning; to accept a person's lesson is better than to comply with his requirements.
