Cao Li, a native of Zhending Lingshou (now Lingshou County, Hebei Province), is the son of Cao Bin, a famous founder of the Northern Song Dynasty, the father of empress CI Shengguang of song Renzong, and a member of Yu's Ministry. He was granted the title of King Wu, and his posthumous title was Anyu.
