Xu mu, born in Qingdao in 1986, studied piano from famous piano teachers Chen Shaogong, Sha Jin and Professor Shi Jinglin, director of keyboard Department of Art College of Qingdao University. He graduated from Dongfang middle school affiliated to Qingda Conservatory of music in 2005, and won the Gold Award in Qingdao piano competition, the silver award in the professional group of national piano competition held by the Ministry of culture of China, and the silver award in the Chinese division of Wiesbaden International Piano Competition held by Germany. He once played the Yellow River Piano Concerto in the national college track and Field Championships. He successfully performed Shostakovich's Second Piano Concerto with the famous Chinese conductor Bian Zushan at the concert for the 100th anniversary of Shostakovich's birth.
