Anecdotes and allusions
make the dead come back to life
Xu Ziling went to the magistrate of Nanjing to visit his old friend Yin Jie. After the Yamen officer reported to him, he came out and said, "my Lord is busy. I can't come to meet you." When Xu came in, Yin Zheng proposed to write a memorial. When he saw Xu come in, he got up and said with a bitter smile, "forgive me for not being polite. Recently, the emperor blamed me for not being able to fight against the Taiping bandits and thieves. Now he is planning to write a memorial to apologize. It seems that he is either demoted or exiled." Xu came forward to read the memorial. The reason for his defeat was reasonable. He only felt that "the more he fought, the more he lost" was not right. He did not ask his master's advice, so he changed his writing to "the more he lost, the more he fought." Then he said, "don't worry, brother. If you play like this, you can't lose your hat."
Later, the emperor read the memorial and thought over and over again that if he was defeated, he should be dismissed. But he was not discouraged and continued to fight. It can be seen that he was loyal to the orphan and should be promoted. Four words in a sentence and two words in front of and behind it play the role of bringing the dying back to life and turning disaster into happiness. From then on, Yin fell in love with Xu Wuti. Whenever he met with great events, he discussed with Xu and called him "Yashi" (Confucius was his teacher).
Satirize the magistrate at the banquet
When Li Hongzhang returned home, he was full of congratulators, but he didn't see Xu Ziling, his classmate who was stained with dust. He asked his wife to go to Xu's house in person, so he invited Xu Ziling to Li's house.
As soon as Xu Ziling came in, Li Hongzhang ordered a banquet. The new magistrate of Luzhou is invited to take the seat. Xu Ziling blinked, regardless of 37 21, a butt "Du" to the magistrate's side. The magistrate was very angry with him. Looking at his greasy robe, he was very tired and hard to say. After three rounds of drinking, the magistrate found that there were not many people toasting the old man in the cloth robe, so he wanted to tease the old man and said, "I'm the old man. I dare to ask you how many times you've been to the banquet in my life!" Xu Ziling knew that he wanted to "beat the willow branches by Qingming Festival" with bad intentions. He said: "the old man was born in the countryside. He has sat on the table countless times in his life, but he only remembers three times." "Those three times?" "the first time was when my father-in-law invited my son-in-law and I took the seat. The second time was when Zeng Guofan said goodbye to me at the Yellow Crane Tower. The third time, I took the seat with you, thanks to you."
The magistrate was amused to hear that Xu took the seat when he was his son-in-law. When he heard that he took the seat for the second time, he was on pins and needles. When he heard that he was entrusted with his "blessing" for the third time, he knew that he was Xu Nanyang, a genius of Luzhou Prefecture, but he didn't buy it. But in the way of Li Hongzhang's face, he stood up and said politely, "it turns out that my husband is Nanyang Duke. I'm disrespectful, I'm disrespectful!" Xu Ziling stood up and angrily denounced: "I'm so disrespectful! It's pathetic that such a person who takes advantage of others' clothes and hats should come to Luzhou prefecture to sit down Then he walked away.
Playing Hongzhang
There is a rumor that Xu Ziling is eccentric. It is said that after Li Hongzhang defeated the Taiping army, he was granted the first-class Su Yibo by the imperial court. He returned to his hometown in a splendid way, entertaining the villagers and his teacher Xu Ziling. Many officials with generous gifts broke through the gate of Li's house. But in the evening, Li Hongzhang only left Xu Ziling to talk about the friendship between teachers and students and analyze the variables of officialdom. During the dinner, Li Hongzhang drank a cup of wine and talked about the honor of being granted a title. In the late Qing Dynasty, there were only four people who were appointed barons by the imperial court. They were Zeng Guofan, the first-class brave Marquis; Li Hongzhang, the first-class Su Yibo; Zuo Zongtang, the first-class Ke Jingbo; and Liu Mingchuan, the first governor of Taiwan, the first-class Warrior (batulu), the first-class baron. The Qing Dynasty inherited the five titles of "Gong, Hou, Bo, Zi and Nan" handed down from the Zhou Dynasty to praise the noble relatives and the ministers who made great contributions. The Gong, Hou and Earl of the Qing Dynasty were divided into three grades, and the first grade was above the first grade. It can be said that the status and salary of the people who have been knighted have reached the peak? Who knows, while drinking, Xu Ziling took off her boots and twisted her feet. It seemed that her feet were itchy and smelly. She casually said, "these feet smell bad!" In Hefei accent, "foot" is called "Jue", and "taste of foot" and "title" are homophonic. Naturally, Li Hongzhang can hear the sarcasm in the words, like a ladle of cold water splashed on his head. However, the teacher sitting in front of him is not easy to attack, so he soon calms down. However, the atmosphere is still awkward. Xu Ziling, who was still a teacher, took the initiative to ease the atmosphere. She leaned forward, looked at Li Hongzhang and said, "Shao Quan! Do you remember when I took you to the foot of Dashu mountain to teach as a child? " Li Hongzhang replied: "I remember the teacher praised me that time. I remember when the teacher asked me what I had learned from the mountain tour, I thought about it once in a while, and then I answered, "people on the mountain, people at the foot of the mountain, people at the foot of the mountain, people at the top of the mountain, all see each other's insignificance." At that time, the teacher praised me for my savvy and ability to see the philosophy of life through natural phenomena and mountains and rivers. "
