Zhang Ertian (1874-1945) was a CaiTian native of Hangzhou county (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang). Modern historians and poets.

Life of the characters

Born in an official family, his grandfather Zhang Zhigao wrote the collection of poems about the mountain house in the early days and the defense of Taizhou. His father, Zhang Shanghe, once learned Ci from Jiang Chunlin. My younger brother, Zhang Dongsun, is a famous philosopher.

Zhang Ertian had a literary name in his early years. He was once elected as the principal of the Ministry of justice, magistrate and alternate magistrate.

After the revolution of 1911, he lived in leisure. In 1914, the Museum of Qing history was established, participated in the writing of the draft of Qing history, and wrote music records for seven years. In 1915, at the invitation of Shen Zengzhi, he participated in the compilation of Zhejiang Tongzhi. Since 1921, he has been a professor of Chinese history and literature in Peking University, Beijing Normal University, China public school, Guanghua University and Yanjing University. Finally, he worked in the research department of Harvard Society of Yanjing University and was the general tutor of Sinology of Yanjing University.

He is rich in works. Shi Wei, published in 1911, was highly valued by domestic and Japanese scholars. In the draft of the history of Qing Dynasty, he was responsible for writing such volumes as records of music, criminal law, geographical records of Jiangsu, Tuhai, biographies of Li Zhifang and biographies of Houfei. He thought that Houfei was his representative work of literary talent and historical knowledge. In 1922, he began to collate and interpret Shen Zengzhi's manuscripts on the study of Mongolian history, and published notes on the origin and development of Mongolia, collation and supplement of Manshu, notes on the secret history of the Yuan Dynasty, collection of essays on dunkan, etc.

He is also the author of huaihou Changhe, Dunan Yuefu, qiandaxin Xuean and Yuxi shengnianxihuijian.
