Seal of Buddha

Foyin (1032-1098) was a monk in Song Dynasty. Jiangxi Fuliang people, common surname Lin. The name of the law is yuan. Song Shenzong admired his Taoism and gave him the title of "Buddha seal Zen master".

brief introduction

Zen master Foyin (1032-1098), a monk of Yunmen sect in Song Dynasty. He was born in Fuliang, Raozhou (formerly in Poyang County, Jiangxi Province, but now in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province). He has learned Confucian classics since childhood. He can recite the Analects of Confucius and poems of various schools at the age of three and 3000 poems at the age of five. He is long and proficient in the five classics and is known as a child prodigy.

When the seal of Buddha was young, he read the Sutra of the Great Buddha on the top of the head of Lengyan in Zhulin temple, and then he made a daily use of Baoji Temple (in today's east gate of Pingxiang, Jiangxi Province) as a teacher to learn Zen. When he was 19 years old, he went to Lushan Mountain, visited Yunmen IV's Kaixian Shanxi, and studied Yuantong juna (1010-1071). He learned from Yanqing Zirong, Yunmen IV. The teacher said with admiration, "the bone is like a snow sinus, and later he is handsome." At the age of 28, he was known as "the son of Yingling" because of his study of kongzong. He inherited the law of good Siam and lived in Chengtian temple in Jiangzhou (now Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province). After that, he lived in Doufang temple in Huaishang (in Xishui County, Hubei Province), Kaixian temple and Guizong temple in Lushan, Jiangxi Province; Jinshan Temple and Jiaoshan temple in Danyang (now Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province); Dayangshan temple in Jiangxi Province. For more than 40 years, he was widely praised in Dehua. He once lived in Yunju mountain of Nankang for four times, and received the four clouds.

He also reorganized the Bailian society and became the leader of Qingsong society, advocating the idea of pure land. Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty once granted a golden bowl to honor its virtue. The famous disciples of Foyin include Yitian, Deyan and Jingwu. On January 4, 1098, the first year of Yuanfu, Buddhist monk Shiji was sixty-seven years old and Fala was fifty. The imperial court granted the title of "Buddhist seal Zen master".

The monk listened quietly, and Su Shi looked down on him from his heart when he saw that the seal of Buddha had been silent. I thought to myself: everyone said that he had the ability. It turned out that he had a straw bag. He came here to cheat some incense money! The topic slowly came to Buddhism. At this time, Foyin asked, "what kind of person should Lao na be in the eyes of my husband?" Su Shi is full of disdain, casually replied: "you seem to have the ability in the eyes of ordinary people, but that's because they are shallow, in fact, you mystify every day, you have no real talent, you are just a liar!" Foyin smiles a little and does not answer. When Su Shi saw him look like this, he not only looked down upon the monk more, but also became complacent. He took advantage of the pleasure and asked, "in your eyes, who is my Su Da bachelor?" "You are a learned and cultured person. Lao Na feels inferior to himself." Foyin replied. After returning home, Su Shi complacently told his younger sister about how to make a monk in the morning. After hearing this, Su Xiaomei burst out laughing. Su Shi was confused and asked, "why is my younger sister laughing?" "You belittled the monk. He was not angry, but praised you. Who do you think is cultured? Where is the cultivation without learning? You think you are better than others. You are so ashamed that you don't know! ". After hearing this, Su Shi suddenly realized.

Zizhan had ten thousand volumes of books in his chest, and there was no dust in his writing. In this position, he did not know where his life was. What was he going to do in his life? The three Buddhas are a man of blood. If Zizhan could bear the responsibility at his feet, he would make one or two decades of wealth and fame as humble as earth. Strive to move forward, cherish, cherish!

"Corpse" is not cold

One day, Su Shi and Foyin were on a boat tour of the Slender West Lake. The master of Foyin suddenly took out a fan carrying Dongpo's poems, threw it into the river, and said in a loud voice: "flowing Dongpo's Poems (corpses)!" At that time, Su Shi was stunned for a moment, but soon pointed to a dog gnawing bones on the river bank with a smile and said, "dogs gnawing bones on the river!"

In his spare time, Su Shi went to Jinshan Temple to visit master Foyin. Unexpectedly, a little monk came to open the door. Su Shi said in a proud voice: "where is the bald donkey?" Little monk calmly pointed to the distance and replied, "Dongpo grazes!"

Beating cakes and offering sacrifices to Buddha

Su Dongpo and Huang Tingjian live in Jinshan Temple. One day, they ate dough cakes. The two agreed that they would not tell the Buddhist monk in the temple about the cake. After a while, the cake was ripe. After counting the number, they offered the cake to the seat of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and prayed. Unexpectedly, the seal of Buddha had been hidden in God's tent in advance. When they knelt down to pray, they reached out and stole two pieces of bread. After Su Shi finished his worship, he got up and saw that there were two cakes missing. Then he knelt down and prayed, "Guanyin Bodhisattva is so powerful. After eating two cakes, why don't you come out to meet him?"

Foyin replied in his account, "if I have noodles, I will make some with you. How dare I disturb you in my spare time?"

Su Shi is a great talent and Foyin is a eminent monk. They often meditate together. Foyin is honest and always bullied by Su Shi. Su Shi sometimes took advantage, very happy, like to go home with his talented sister Su Xiaomei said. One day, they meditated together again. Su Shi asked: what do you think I look like? Buddha seal said: I think you look like a Buddha. Su Shi laughed and said to Foyin: do you know what you look like sitting there? It's like a pool of cow dung. This time, Foyin suffered a lot. Su Shi went home to show off this in front of Su Xiaomei. Su Xiaomei sneered and said to her brother, "you're so savvy that you can still meditate. Do you know what people pay attention to most? It's about seeing the heart and seeing the sex. If you have it in your heart, you have it in your eyes. If the seal says that you look like a Buddha, it means that he has a Buddha in his heart. If you say that the seal is like cow dung, think about what you have in your heart!

Eat together

Su Dongpo is in Hangzhou and likes to make friends with the monks of Xihu temple. He is the best friend with the Buddhist seal monk of Shengshan temple. While they drink and chant poems, they often make fun of each other.

Monk Foyin is delicious. Whenever Su Dongpo's party is a treat, he always comes uninvited. One night, Su Dongpo invited Huang Tingjian to visit the West Lake, and the ship prepared a lot of food and wine. Su Dongpo said to Huang Tingjian with a smile, "Foyin always comes to the party. Tonight we'll take a boat to the lake to drink and sing poems. He can't come anyway. However, when monk Foyin had heard that Su Dongpo was going to swim with Huang Tingjian, he hid under the cabin board before they got on the boat.

The moon is in the sky, the breeze is cool, and the lotus fragrance is all over the lake. The boat slowly comes to the Three Pagodas of the West Lake. Su Dongpo holds his wine cup and his beard, and happily says to Huang Tingjian, "today there is no Buddha seal, but we are quiet. Let's have a drink order first.
