Jiang Jian was born in Zhuji between Yuan and Ming Dynasties. He is indifferent in temperament and extraordinary in bearing. Learning from Yang Weizhen, he traveled all over the country and learned more.
Yang Weizhen despised people, but praised Jiang Jian and said, "in the future, we should set up a red flag for our school." At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, he lived in Wu (Suzhou) with mutinies. He often exchanged poems with famous scholars such as Rao Jie, Gao Qi, Yang Ji, Chen Ruzhi, song Zhong, Chen Fuyan, etc., and he was respected as a leader. He once served as the Secretary of Huainan xingzhongshu, and was dismissed soon. In the early years of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, the Taizu, compiled the history of rites and music. He and Xie Su, the Shangyu emperor, applied for compilation and paid homage to Dr. Taichang. He wrote a book called Xiuxue Ji.
