Yang Shicong (1602-1648), the word Chaoche, No. Fu Xiu. Jining people in Shandong Province in the late Ming Dynasty were the students of Zhou Tingru, the leader of Donglin Party. In the fourth year of Chongzhen's reign, he was granted the title of Jinshi. In the same year as Zhang Pu, the core figure of Donglin Party, he went to Hanlin academy to review. He was cunning and changeable, and had no integrity. After Beijing was captured, he took refuge in Li Zicheng's regime, and later became an official in the Qing Dynasty.

Life of the characters

Yang Shicong, the word Chaoche, No. Fu Xiu. He was born in Zhili Prefecture of Jining in the late Ming Dynasty. Chongzhen four years (AD 1631), to participate in the imperial examination, was in the top three, granted with Jinshi origin. Among the same subjects, Zhang Pu, the leader of Donglin, was the first in the top three. During the reign of Chongzhen, Zhang Pu mobilized Donglin Party members and raised tens of thousands of taels of silver to bribe the palace and control the government. At that time, people said that Chongzhen was in the court, Zhang Pu was in the opposition, and Yang Shicong also predicted his affairs in the same year. According to the miscellaneous history records of the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty, Yang Shicong was also from Donglin, a student of Zhou Tingru, and had close contacts with Fu society.

Emperor Chongzhen had placed high hopes on Yang Shicong, who was appointed as one of the teachers of the crown prince Zhu CiZhen. However, Yang Shicong was despised for his kindness in the future.

Yang Shicong is insidious and has no integrity. In 1644, Li Zicheng captured Beijing, and Chongzhen killed himself in Meishan, which is known as "Jiashen national disaster". Some eunuchs converged on Chongzhen, while ministers of Manchu Dynasty vied for favor to the Dashun regime, and let Chongzhen's body corrupt in the coffin. Only a dozen people were hanged, but Yang Shicong was not among them.

According to the records of the national calamity, Yang Shicong surrendered to the Dashun regime and became the Minister of the puppet army. However, it is recorded in the records of zhehuolu that he took refuge in the Dashun regime as the Minister of the Ministry of household. Although Yang Shicong took refuge with Li Zicheng, Li Zicheng looked down upon these demoted officials with no integrity and still recovered 20000 liang of stolen goods from them. Some incorruptible officials were tortured to death because they could not afford to recover the stolen money. But Yang Shicong soon paid off 20000 Liang, so he died.

After the Qing army went south, Yang Shicong became an official in the Qing Dynasty. Unofficial history once said that some scholars offered couplets, saying: "1234567; loyalty, filial piety, courtesy and integrity. "The first couplet hides" the dead eight ", and the second couplet hides" shameless ". According to the fact that there were many officials who were demoted to the Qing Dynasty at the end of Ming Dynasty, it may be that they mistakenly publicized other people's stories. However, compared with Yang Shicong's life of "three surnamed slaves", the description of this couplet is not unjust.

Main works

After Yang Shicong became an official in the Qing Dynasty, he once wrote a unofficial history called "yutanghuiji", which has some historical value. However, because of the Donglin Party's views, he wrote about the historical events at that time, deliberately protected his teacher Zhou Tingru and other Donglin Party members, and even maliciously tampered with them. "There were many biases in discussing the events in the late Ming Dynasty." because of his early completion, Tan Qian's Guoyan and Li Xunzhi's sanchaoyeji, whose authors were also Donglin people, all quoted many of his views.
