Life of the characters
Zhou Hui, formerly known as huijue, was born in Guannan, Jiangsu Province in 1918. His father regarded Zhou Hui as a redundant mouth. At birth, he was ruthlessly abandoned by his father. His sister-in-law could not give up. She picked him up from the wild and raised him with sweet potato paste. Because of malnutrition, he learned to walk very late, but he got smallpox and died in bed. His vitality was so tenacious that he finally survived, and his face also left indelible scars. When the KMT came to take care of their families, the battalion commander went back to the County Yamen and said, "I'm a stranger. I don't think you can defeat those who are surnamed Hui. Hundreds of soldiers went to search their homes. In such a big battle, we caught all the adults. His family's little seven son, a ten year old baby, can still come out to support the appearance, keep an eye on me and ask me for business.... "
In order to avoid the pursuit of the Kuomintang and not to involve his family, after joining the revolution, he took his mother's surname, Zhou and Hui.
When his third brother Hui Yuyu (1909-1989) was in prison in Shanghai, he was only 12 years old and studied with his elder brother Hui Meishan. When the third brother was released from prison, he and his brothers fled to Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, to study in Nanchang Institute of technology. In 1938, he followed Comrade Chen Pixian to Yan'an. When Hui Yuyu met the seven younger brothers again, it was 1953, 15 years later. At that time, Zhou Hui was Deputy Secretary of the Hunan provincial Party committee.
In 1958, a wave of great leap forward was set off in China, and the wind of exaggeration raged on the land of 9.6 million square kilometers. In order to cope with the above inspection and acceptance, some places transplanted five mu of mature rice to one mu of land, and put forward the political slogan of catching up with Britain in three years and surpassing the United States in five years. At the national agricultural work conference held in Guangzhou, the annual grain output reported by all provinces in the country doubled. However, Zhou Hui, as the acting first Secretary of Hunan Province, kept a clear mind and reported the annual grain output of Hunan Province from 22.5 billion jin to 25 billion jin, only increasing by 10%. As a result, he was put in the white flag and won the last place in the country. Zhou Hui was reprimanded by a central leader from Hunan Province. Zhou Hui said, "those who report good news give good news, and those who report bad news give bad news The red flag man has come to beg for food from my white flag man. If you scold me again, I won't lend food to these "red flag" provinces. " As a result, Mao Zedong personally brought the Secretary of the provincial Party committee of red banner province to Hunan Province to have a hand in hand with Zhou Hui, the Acting Secretary of white banner province. This year, Hunan province did not starve to death.
In the face of the great leap forward and the launch of satellites in China, only one satellite in Hunan has not been launched. It was denounced as "a tortoise in Zhongnanhai, and a tortoise in the whole country..." by a head of the central government Unable to bear the pressure, the provincial Party committee asked Zhou Hui for instructions: "Secretary Zhou, if you don't blow it, you can't..." Zhou Hui said: "Hunan is not boastful, but it doesn't blow the sky. I became a tortoise." In the face of the national satellite launch, Zhou Hui sent people all over the country to understand. As a result, the writer Quan Yanchi called Zhou Hui a revolutionist who dared to drum up and shout for the people, and an old communist who loved the people for the people. Zhou Hui's behavior attracted the attention of Chairman Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong asked Zhou Hui, "what do you think of the situation?" Zhou Hui thought for a while and said, "let me say that the achievements are great, and there are many problems. Of course, the future is bright. " Mao Zedong gazed at him for a moment and pointed to him: "you are going to attend this enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau in Lushan." "No way." Zhou Hui explained, "I presided over the agricultural conference held by the provincial Party committee, which is inseparable from it." "I must go. You go up the mountain as soon as the agricultural conference is over. " Mao Zedong said without any doubt.
On June 30, 1959, Zhou Xiaozhou, the first Secretary of the Hunan provincial Party committee, was summoned by Mao Zedong. "Is Zhou Hui's agricultural meeting over?" When Mao Zedong asked, Zhou Xiaozhou replied, "it's over today." "Tell him to come to Lushan immediately." "He has a cold." "A cold doesn't kill people." Mao Zedong called his Secretary Xu Yefu and said, "hang up Hunan and ask Zhou Hui to go up the mountain and inform the Jiangxi provincial Party committee to pick him up."
On the morning of July 2, Zhou Hui was ordered to Mount Lushan and was summoned by Mao Zedong that afternoon. "You are an honest man. How was the meeting in Hunan? " When Mao Zedong asked Zhou Hui, Zhou Hui's brain suddenly began to work nervously. According to his experience, he talked to the chairman. He should be cautious about what he didn't ask, and he must answer what he asked: "we also discussed the situation and asked everyone to tell the truth. In this way, last year's yield estimate was too high. Mr. Tan put in a white flag for us when we reported an increase of 10%. Some cadres could not hold their breath and said that the report was too low to pass. " "Tan Zhenlin has never planted land. He was a worker." Mao explained. Zhou Hui said: "this year, it's also higher. When the Shanghai conference was increased to 45 billion jin, we all said that it would be nice to win 30 billion jin. " "The cadres below all reflect that the peasants are afraid of change and the" Communist wind "again. At present, most communes are still big canteens with a supply system. The peasants did not volunteer, but they did not speak at the top and did not dare to move at the bottom. The low labor enthusiasm is related to the excessive supply system. " "According to the opinion of Hunan, the supply system can no longer be implemented under current conditions. The commune established last year can not be established this year. What we did last year will be reduced this year. We can't talk about running a large canteen any more. The waste is too serious... " In front of the great leader, Zhou Huiyi opened his heart. "Public canteens should be voluntary, but they should not be scattered in a crowd; they should not pour cold water on the enthusiasm of the masses; they should be united, and they should not pay too much attention to the problem of one finger, two fingers and three fingers." Mao Zedong seemed a little unhappy, and Zhou Hui certainly saw that.
On July 13, the day after Mao Zedong talked with the group leaders, he convened Zhou Xiaozhou, Zhou Hui and Li Rui to hold a fellow Townsman's meeting in Meilu, where he lived. At the meeting, Zhou Hui once again said to the elderly: "Madam President, there are still some people who don't like to talk about shortcomings. There is still pressure in the seminar and they can't speak freely." "A lot of questions should be put out. It is good to fight each other when it comes to who is right and who is wrong." After the meeting, Zhou Hui grabbed Zhou Xiaozhou and said, "how about going to talk to the boss? You can mobilize Mr. Peng to talk to the chairman and strike while the iron is hot
