Zhouzhuang Town was built in the first year of Yuanyou in Northern Song Dynasty (1086). It was named after Zhou digonglang who donated land to build Quanfu temple. It is one of the six ancient towns in Jiangnan. Historical evolution

In the first year of Yuanyou (1086) of the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhou Digong, a native of the city, believed in Buddhism and donated 200 mu of Zhuangtian to Quanfu temple as a temple property. People felt his kindness and named the land "Zhouzhuang".

On the annual Lantern Festival in Zhouzhuang Town, on the square of Niulang temple in Dongqi village, people erect a mast with a small bamboo pole on it and string of colored lights on both ends.
