Wu Zhenren, also known as Baosheng emperor, commonly known as Daogong, is one of the most fragrant gods in the traditional folk beliefs in Southern Fujian and Taiwan. In history, it evolved from the deification of the early divine doctors, medical gods and Wu Zhenren (Daogong).
brief introduction
According to historical records, Wu Zhenren, formerly known as Tao, was born in Baijiao village, Tongan county (now Baijiao village, Zhangzhou Taiwan investment zone) during the Northern Song Dynasty (979-1036). Collecting medicine and practicing medicine during his lifetime saved countless people. Later, he became a god of local protection, which embodied many functions of local protection god. He was even more widely believed in by the masses and spread to all over the world. The birthplace of Wu Zhenren was worshipped as the ancestral palace of a miracle doctor. In the early days, there were four palaces of Tzu Chi, East, West, South and North, which were built together from generation to generation. The spirit of Wu Zhenren has become increasingly prominent. Today, it is still the local patron saint. It has developed into an extremely influential folk belief in Southern Fujian, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. In recent years, after the opening of tourism in mainland China, especially in order to find roots and visit ancestors, a large number of pilgrims organized groups to offer incense, which set off a climax. At the same time, they donated money to build temples and held folk belief activities, which promoted cultural exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and carried forward Wu Zhenren's spiritual thinking.
faith
Baosheng emperor, also known as Wu Zhenren and Daogong. According to folk legend, Wu Zhen had excellent medical skills, noble medical ethics, benevolence and countless living people before his life. He was respected by people at that time and was called a miracle doctor. After the death of Wu Zhenren, people spontaneously built temples and statues for sacrifice, which gradually developed into a kind of faith worship, and Wu Zhenren gradually changed from a miracle doctor to a medical God. At present, the worship of Wu Zhenren is widespread in Southern Fujian, Guangdong, Guangdong, Taiwan and overseas Chinese communities. Nearly a thousand temples have been built, with hundreds in Taiwan alone. In recent years, hundreds of temples dedicated to Wu Zhenren in Taiwan have jointly established the "Baosheng Dadi Temple Fraternity Association", which sends thousands of representatives to visit Tzu Chi ancestral temples in Quanzhou, Xiamen and Zhangzhou every year, forming a spectacular Taoist cultural tourism boom. at the stone gate of Gande in Anxi, there is a jade lake hall, which is used to worship Wu Zhenren. There is a plaque in the hall. There have been different opinions about the ancestral home of Wu Zhenren, some from Xiamen and some from Zhangzhou. With the deepening of research in recent years, scholars on both sides of the Strait have reached a preliminary consensus that Wu Zhenren's ancestral home is Shimen, Gande Town, Anxi. In the annals of Anxi county published in the year of Dingchou in the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1757 AD), it is recorded that "the former site of Wu Zhenren, a Lingyi of the Song Dynasty, is located at the tip of the stone gate. The name of the Zhenren is Yu, with the word Huaji and the name yunchong. Born in the fourth year of the Taiping reign of the Song Dynasty, he was granted a royal envoy by Gongju. In the reign of emperor Renzong, the emperor was healed and the world was saved by Alchemy. " During the reign of Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, Li Guangdi, a famous Minister of Neo Confucianism, wrote a book named Wu Zhenren temple, which said: "the highest mountain in Qingxi is Shimen. Wu Zhenren, Shimen people also, set up a temple and set up a memorial ceremony in the village, and their descendants gathered at the foot of the mountain to honor Zhenren's remains. " In addition, there are records of Wu Zhenren's ancestral home in Anxi in Quanzhou Prefecture, Haicang county and Tong'an county. in recent years, a Ming Dynasty epitaph has been unearthed from Gande Shimen in Anxi, which is the epitaph of the Duke of Zequan of Wu's family in Shimen. The epitaph reads: "the epitaph of the Duke of Zequan of Wu's family in Shimen is the epitaph of the Ming Dynasty Xuanhe was granted the real Tzu Chi, and so far the bait has been widely used. " In the epitaph, it is mentioned many times that the great reputation of Wu's family in Zequan is due to the blessing of Wu Zhenren, who was rewarded by later generations. This also confirms the conclusion that Wu Zhenren's ancestral home is Gande Shimen in Anxi. In recent years, with the increasingly frequent exchanges between Fujian and Taiwan, there are more and more exchange activities focusing on the academic research of Wu Zhenren, especially the exchange activities between the Tzu Chi temples such as Baijiao palace and the temple fraternity of the great emperor Baosheng in Taichung, such as Yuanbao palace, Wanshou Palace and Xuejia Tzu Chi palace. The academic circle is unprecedentedly active, with Wu Zhenren temple and its former site as the core The tourism hotline with Wu Zhenren as the main line is about to come out, and the rise of Taoist cultural exchange activities with Wu Zhenren's academic research as the main content has created good conditions for the two-way religious and cultural tourism between the two sides of the Strait.
