Ye Xiaowan (about 1613-1657) was born in Wujiang (now Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province). He was born in the 41st year of Wanli reign of emperor Shenzong of Ming Dynasty and died in the 14th year of Shunzhi reign of Qing Dynasty. Ye Shaoyuan and Shen Yixiu, two girls, are the first female writers in the history of Chinese opera to have their works circulated.

Chen Qubing also said: "Ye Xiaowan, with her sister xiaoluan's death, was extremely sad. She wrote the drama Yuanyang Meng in all directions, which is also quite beautiful." The play tells the story of Jin Lan, the three scholars of huibaifang, zhaoqicheng and qionglongdiao, who have made love to each other and left each other. The actual writing is their sisters three inseparable brotherhood. "Hui", "Zhao" and "Qiong" are the first words of Xiaowan, wanwan and xiaoluan respectively, and their ages are also consistent. The first one is about three friends visiting Fenghuang terrace together during the Mid Autumn Festival; the second one is about Hui Baifang's yearning for the two friends of Zhao and Qiong; the third one is about the sad news of qionglongdiao's death. The first eight chapters discuss Zhu Youchun, Kang Hai, Li Kaiguang, Chen Yuxiao, Mei Dingzuo, Tang Xianzu and Zang maoxun. The ninth chapter focuses on Ye Xiaowan, a female dramatist. It introduces her family, her works and her chronology. It highlights the drama yuanyangmeng, with a collection of Ye Xiaowan's poems. Ye Xiaowan is the first female dramatist in China. Shen Zizheng, his uncle, prefaced his Zaju: "Ci and Qu flourished in Yuan Dynasty, but no one was good at ladies. Hui silk makes up for her talent, which has never been seen before.
