Life of the characters
Early experience
Lu Huaishen was honest and prudent when he was young. Later, he was a Jinshi in the examination. He served as a censor and an official. In the first year of Shenlong (705), Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Dynasty restored Wu Zetian and moved her to Shangyang palace, where she went to court on the 10th. Lu Huaishen, who served as the imperial censor at that time, remonstrated: "in the past, after emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty became emperor, he met the emperor once in five days, because he won the world with cloth clothes, so he attributed the honor to his father. Now your majesty follows the established law and inherits the imperial rule. How can you follow the example of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty? Yingtian gate is only two li away from Tixiang gate. You can't ride in a row. You can't ride in parallel. Your majesty has been here many times. What if a fool drives? I think that the Empress Dowager should be accepted by the inner court for support, not for your majesty to go in and out. " Tang Zhongzong didn't listen.
Admonish current affairs
During the reign of Jinglong, Lu Huaishen was appointed as Taichung Cheng, the right censor, and went to the imperial court to comment on the current political gains and losses. He mainly put forward three propositions: 1. The governor of each state, the governor, the governor, the Biejia, the Changshi, the Sima, and the county magistrate of Ji county should not be transferred if they have been in office for less than four years. Those with outstanding political achievements can be given additional chariots and horses, fur and clothes, salaries and ranks, envoys can be sent to express sympathy, and imperial edicts can be issued to encourage them to be promoted when there is a public vacancy. For those who have no political achievements and are greedy and tyrannical, they will be released to the countryside. 2. The officials who are able to serve as local governors or senior aides will be promoted and released, and their achievements will be checked by the imperial court. Those who are old and sick and can't take up their posts should stop at the same time. (3) those who have been dismissed from office for corruption shall not be employed if they have been dismissed for less than ten years. after the memorial was presented, it was still not adopted by Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Dynasty.
As prime minister
In the first year of Jingyun (710), Emperor Ruizong of Tang Dynasty was restored and Yao Chong was appointed Minister of the Ministry of war, Lu Xiangxian and Lu Huaishen were appointed ministers of the Ministry of war to rectify the chaotic military officer election system since Zhongzong. Later, Lu Huaishen changed his position to be the servant of Huangmen, and was granted the title of uncle of Yuyang county. In the first year of Kaiyuan (713), Lu Huaishen and Wei Zhigu went to Luoyang, the eastern capital, to preside over election affairs. Soon after, Tang Xuanzong recalled Lu Huaishen to Chang'an, appointed him prime minister, and appointed him as the third member of tongzhongshu. In the second year of Kaiyuan (714), Lu Huaishen acted as the agent of Huangmen prison. At that time, Wang Xiantong, the uncle of Li Ye, King Xue, invaded the people and was impeached by the censor. Li Ye pleaded with the emperor for him, and Emperor Xuanzong ordered Zhongshu to review. Lu Huaishen and Zhongshu ordered Yao Chong to play: "Wang Xiantong's crime is clear, the impeachment of the censor is not unjust, so we can't indulge him." Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty ordered the case to be closed. From then on, all his relatives and relatives were restrained. In the third year of Kaiyuan (715), Lu Huaishen was officially worshipped as the supervisor of Huangmen and concurrently served as the Minister of the Ministry of officials. At that time, Yao Chong took more than ten days off because of his son's death, which resulted in a mountain of government affairs. Lu Huaishen had no way to make up his mind about this. He was terrified and pleaded with Xuanzong. Tang Xuanzong said: "I entrust the affairs of the world to Yao Chong. I just want you to pacify the refined and vulgar people."
He died of serious illness
In the fourth year of Kaiyuan (716), Lu Huaishen was seriously ill. He begged for his bones and asked to retire, which was approved by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty. In November of the same year, Lu Huaishen died of illness and presented a list to Tang Xuanzong recommending song Jing, Li Jie, Li Chaoyin and Lu Congyuan. The Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty sighed and gave Lu Huaishen a posthumous title of Wencheng as governor of Jingzhou. In the sixth year of Kaiyuan (718), Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty met Lu Huaishen's family during the Daxiang sacrifice (a sacrifice held on the second anniversary of his death) while hunting. He rewarded Lu Huaishen with silk and other things, stopped hunting, stopped at Lu Huaishen's tomb, stopped looking at it, and burst into tears. He asked the Minister of the Chinese Academy to draw up the inscription, write it in person, and ordered the government to set up a monument for him.
Anecdotes and allusions
During the Kaiyuan period, Lu Huaishen and Yao Chong paid homage to each other. He thought that his way of governing was not as good as Yao Chong's, and he pushed Yao Chong to deal with every major event. At that time, people called Lu Huaishen the Prime Minister of company and food, and ridiculed him for eating but not doing anything. Later generations use the metaphor of "accompanying the prime minister" to describe officials who do nothing.
