Ma Duan (1074 ~ 1120) was originally named Zonghai, and his name was changed to Duan later. He was born in Happy Valley of afuquan, Shijing, Huxian county.
brief introduction
His father Jing, a Jinshi, was a doctor and historian of the Ministry of industry. He presented it to Tai Chang Shaoqing. Ma Duan gave the three Fu family background by his legacy. He served successively as Lan Tian Wei, Dali Si Cheng, Shouzhou, Yingzhou Zhizhou, and also as censor and Deputy censor of neicangku. Ma Duan is intelligent and eager to learn. He was praised by people at that time for his magnanimity of Du Mu in his poetry and the charm of Zhong (Yao) and Wang (Wang Xizhi) in his calligraphy. Song Renzong needed him to write in person, regardless of regular script. When the Western Xia Dynasty invaded Yanzhou (today's Yan'an area), the imperial court appointed Fan Zhongyan as commander-in-chief, and called him to act as the second division of Yi and Yan. When he took office, he proposed to build qiaozigu village to garrison troops, and worked with the generals to repel the invasion of Xixia. The prime minister Pang jishangshu praised his intelligence and strategy, and was awarded the Deputy envoy of neicangku, who knew Danzhou. Later, Han Weigong (QI) recommended his article, saying that he was suitable to serve as a Taige, so he was granted Jinshi background and the post of censor. In October of the fifth year of Qingli reign of emperor Renzong of Song Dynasty (1045), Wen Yanbo, the Prime Minister of Song Dynasty, took charge of Shu. He was asked to be the commander of the army of Yi and Li. After receiving the official name, Ren Zong also said, "Ma Duan is a man of all abilities, and is suitable for assistant Li." so he was promoted to Zuoku envoy, who was also the commander of Yi and Li. He fell ill on the way to Ren and died on the 7th in Yizhou at the age of 46. In March of 1074, the seventh year of Xining reign of emperor Shenzong of Song Dynasty, he was buried in the northern ancestral Tomb of waterlogged Huxian county (near today's liulao nunnery)
