Life of the characters
Wang Huaiyang
Liu you is the sixth son of Liu Bang, Emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty. He is the brother of Liu Ying, Emperor Huidi of Han Dynasty and Liu Heng, Emperor Wendi of Han Dynasty. In March of the 11th year of emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (196 BC), Peng Yue, king of Liang Dynasty, failed in his rebellion and was killed. Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty issued an imperial edict, saying, "choose the people who can be granted the titles of Liang king and Huaiyang king." Lu Wan, the king of Yan, and Xiao He, the Prime Minister of Yan, asked for the establishment of Prince Liu Hui as king of Liang and Prince Liu you as king of Huaiyang, which was adopted by Liu Bang. On March 11 of the same year, Gaozu of the Han Dynasty made Liu you king of Huaiyang, abolished Yingchuan County, and expanded part of its larger land to Huaiyang state.
Change the title of King Zhao
Han Gaozu died on April 25, 195bc. On May 17 of the same year, Liu you's second brother, crown prince Liu Ying, ascended the throne for emperor Hui of the Han Dynasty. After emperor Hui of Han Dynasty ascended the throne, he honored his mother empress LV Zhi as empress dowager, and LV Zhi was Regent. In December of the first year of emperor Hui of the Han Dynasty (194 BC), empress Lu sent someone to poison Liu you's third brother, Liu Ruyi, king of Zhao Yin, and renamed Liu you king of Zhao. On August 12, 188 B.C., Emperor Huidi of the Han Dynasty passed away, and the crown prince Liu Gong ascended the throne, known as the former young emperor, and was still under the Regency of empress Lu.
Starvation in confinement
In the first month of the seventh year of empress Lu (181 BC), Liu you's Queen was Lu's daughter (probably empress Lu's niece). Liu you didn't like her, but liked other concubines. Queen Lu was very jealous and angry, so she left home and slandered Liu you in front of empress Lu. She falsely accused Liu you of saying: "how can the empress Lu be king? I must deal with them after a hundred years." Empress Lu was so angry that she called Liu you, king of Zhao, to Beijing. After Liu you came to the capital, empress Lu placed him in the official residence, but did not receive him, and sent a guard to surround him and not give him food. Some of Liu you's subordinates steal the food, so they are arrested and questioned. During his hunger, Liu you wrote a poem to express his sorrow and resentment. On the 18th of the first month of the same year, Liu Youzhong died of starvation due to confinement. According to the folk funeral, he was buried next to the common people's tomb in Chang'an (now Xi'an, Shaanxi). Because Liu you died in confinement, he was given the posthumous title of king you.
