Tian Yannian
Tian Yannian (72 BC), Zibin, after the state of Qi, moved to Yangling (now southwest of Gaoling, Shaanxi). General Huo Guang's assistant soon made a long history.
Profile
Tian Yannian was re used by Huo Guang as a long historian. He was also the governor of Hedong. He promoted Yin wenggui and others to his subordinates, and killed the powerful. When Huo Guang and other ministers deposed Liu He, Tian Yannian stepped forward to serve as the chief minister of agriculture. Because of the construction of the tomb of Liu Fuling of emperor Zhao and the lease of private vehicles, the embezzlement of 30 million yuan was exposed. Tian Guangming and other ministers interceded for him, believing that "the righteousness of the spring and Autumn period should be replaced by merit." Emperor Xuan did not agree. Yannian was ashamed and said, "what am I going to jail for?" Then he held Li Yu in his hand and waited. A few days later, the emperor sent someone to inform Tian Yannian to report to Tingwei. When Tian Yannian heard that the imperial edict was coming, the drum was loud and he committed suicide. There is a biography of cruel officials in Hanshu.
Tian Yannian, Zibin, is a descendant of the royal family of Qi in the Warring States period. In the Han Dynasty, his family was moved to Yangling. When he was young, he showed great talent. He was recruited to the shogunate by general Huo Guang and became an effective assistant. He soon made a long history.
The person and the matter
Hedong county is Huo Guang's hometown. At that time, the public security was not very good, the strong and powerful broke the law, and thieves were rampant. Huo Guang sent Tian Yannian to be the governor of Hedong. After Tian Yannian arrived in Hedong, he was very good at promoting talents. He attached great importance to Yin wenggui, Hong Ru and others, strictly enforced the law, and soon achieved good results. He managed Hedong County in good order. Yin wenggui, whom he promoted, became a famous official in the Western Han Dynasty.
Tian Yannian was Huo Guang's confidant. He made outstanding achievements in the local government. He was soon promoted to the imperial court as the chief minister of agriculture in charge of the national finance.
After the death of emperor Zhao of Han Dynasty, there was no prince. Huo Guang and other ministers chose Liu He, the king of Changyi, as the successor of emperor. But Liu He's bad character and "immorality". Huo Guang is very regretful. He wants to abolish the king of Changyi and set up another emperor, but he can't make up his mind, so he asks Tian Yannian to discuss it.
Tian Yannian had no worries. He said to Huo Guang, "the general is the pillar of the country. You don't think this man is suitable to be an emperor. Then why don't you set up another virtuous monarch, the Empress Dowager of Ming Dynasty?" (Tian Yannian's implication is to let Huo Guang abolish and establish under the banner of Empress Dowager. But the so-called empress dowager is actually Huo Guang's granddaughter, a 15-year-old girl. It's for this reason that Huo Guang can't make up his mind.)
Huo Guang added: "I really want to do it now, but I don't know if there is a similar precedent in history?"
Tian Yannian said: "Yiyin was the Prime Minister of the Shang Dynasty. He once abolished the king Taijia of the Shang Dynasty and saved the country. Later generations praised Yiyin as a loyal minister. Now if the general can do this, he will be Yi Yin of the Han Dynasty! "
It is often said that Huo Guang is ignorant, but it is impossible that Huo Guang does not know such a famous historical story as "Yiyin abandoned Taijia". The reason why he asked Tian Yannian repeatedly was that Tian Yannian was a warrior, and he wanted to see if the warrior supported him in setting up a new one. Since Tian Yannian clearly expressed his support for Huo Guang, Huo Guang acted according to his plan. In order to make it more convenient for Tian Yannian to participate in major events, he added a part-time "geishizhong" to Tian Yannian, who can freely enter and leave the palace.
Huo Guang went to the cavalry general Zhang Anshi to discuss. After obtaining Zhang Anshi's support, he called the prime minister and other Manchu civil and military officials to the Weiyang palace to discuss the matter. Huo Guang first spoke and said, "the king of Changyi is confused and afraid of endangering his country. How about that?"
The ministers looked at each other in horror and did not dare to speak.
Tian Yannian has a good idea and knows it's time to support Huo Guang. He stood up, took a big step forward, put his hand on the hilt of the sword, and yelled at Huo Guang: "before emperor Xiaowu died, he entrusted the orphan and the whole world to the general, because the general was loyal and virtuous, and could ensure the safety of Liu's whole world. But now the whole society is boiling, and the country is about to collapse Moreover, the posthumous title of the emperor of the Han Dynasty often carries the word "filial piety", which means that the descendants of the later generations will have the world for a long time, and the blood food in the ancestral temple will continue. If now (because of the emperor's immortality), the Han family's ancestral temple is no longer worshipped, what face will the general have when he dies to see the former Emperor? Today's negotiation must not be delayed. The ministers are not enthusiastic supporters. Please let me cut him with a sword! "
Tian Yannian's generous speech, ostensibly criticizing Huo Guang, is actually supporting Huo Guang's action, and at the same time intimidating the officials. Anyone who doesn't listen to Huo Guang will be beheaded immediately.
As soon as the officials saw that the situation was not good, they immediately expressed their support for Huo Guang. Huo Guang successfully abolished the king of Changyi and established Emperor Xuan of Han Dynasty. Tian Yannian was granted the title of Yang Chenghou because of his contributions.
(Lu Simian, a modern historian, once pointed out in Lu's general history of China that after the death of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Huo Guang's support for emperor Zhao, his youngest son, and the subsequent abolition of emperor Xuandi of the Han Dynasty by Emperor Changyi, were actually two coups. The truth may be completely different from what is recorded in the Hanshu. Tian Yannian is an important participant in the coup.)
When Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty succeeded to the throne, he went to the ancestral temple with Huo Guang in the same car to worship. There was a sense of fear that the so-called "impenetrable" was on his back. The domineering influence of the Huo family can be seen here. As Huo Guang's confidant, Tian Yannian also had a domineering incident.
Once, for some reason, Tian Yannian, armed with weapons, collided with the emperor's motorcade in the palace. It's a small friction event and it doesn't intensify. Later, when Yan Yannian, a loyal and outspoken censor, learned of the incident, he wrote to impeach Tian Yannian, saying that he "owned the car with soldiers.". Tian Yannian didn't admit his death. He wrote a letter to explain that he didn't collide with "his own car". Yan Yannian made a false accusation.
The censor Zhongcheng was in charge of the investigation. Instead of pursuing Tian Yannian, he accused Yan Yannian of "seeing Dashi's farmland collide with the motorcade, why didn't he order the palace gate to stop him from going in and out?" This is not willing to give up, and find another sin Yan Yannian, to put him to death, Yan Yannian had to flee.
Under the influence of Huo Guang's power, Tian Yannian was domineering. It's really a pity. Rich families like Jiao and Jia of Maoling once spent tens of millions of money to buy materials for building tombs, such as charcoal and reed, and accumulated them to sell them at a high price. Emperor Zhao of the Han Dynasty died suddenly when he was young. The royal family did not prepare materials for the mausoleum.
Tian Yannian was in charge of finance. He refused to spend money to buy it from the merchants. Instead, he gave a vicious idea and told the emperor that it was illegal for merchants like Jiao's Jia to accumulate materials for the construction of the mausoleum, and all of them should be confiscated. Emperor Xuan agreed. Jiao's, Jia's and other merchants lost all their money.
But the rich families like Jiao and Jia are not easy to be provoked. After they suffered losses, they hated Tian Yannian and paid people to investigate Tian Yannian's crime. They wanted to take revenge and kill him.
Tian Yannian is a typical corrupt official. He refused to spend money to buy materials from businessmen. He wanted to confiscate other people's things by imperial edict, which seemed to save money for the government. But in other aspects, he resorted to his financial power, skillfully manipulated and wantonly embezzled.
To build a mausoleum for emperor Zhao of the Han Dynasty, we need to use a lot of sand, transport sand, and rent a lot of folk ox carts. When you pull a cart of sand, you have to pay the people a thousand yuan rent. Tian Yannian reported a false account, and a cart of sand was worth 2000 yuan. After that, he pulled 30000 carts of sand and soil, and he reimbursed 60 million yuan in Dasinong mansion, of which 30 million yuan was put into Tian Yannian's own pocket. After spending a lot of money, two wealthy merchants, Jiao Jia, finally grasped the real evidence of Tian Yannian's corruption, and wrote to inform against it. Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty ordered the prime minister to investigate the corruption case. Huo Guang is the master of Tian Yannian. Naturally, he wants to express Guan Zhao. He called Tian Yannian to the government to ask. If he was really corrupt, he would try to cover up for him. Tian Yannian died to save face. He also denied in front of Huo Guang: "I was a petty official under the general's family. After receiving the general's kindness, I got the title of marquis. How could I do such a thing?" Huo said: "since you haven't done it, I'll let people find out."
Tian Guangming, the imperial historian, was a kind-hearted man. He said to Du Yannian, the imperial servant: "the spring and Autumn Annals contains the great righteousness that has been repeated with merit. When the king of Changyi was deposed at the beginning, without Tian Yannian's generous speech, great things would not have been accomplished. Now, the government has to pay 30 million yuan to make atonement for Tian Yannian. What's wrong with that? Please pass on my words to the general. " Du Yannian was also a kind man, so he told Huo Guang what he said.
Huo Guang's attitude is thought-provoking. He first affirmed Tian Yannian's achievements in abolishing the king of Changyi, but then he touched his heart and said to Du Yannian: "Tian Yannian's words scared me, and my heart still hurts. Please tell doctor Tian Guangming and inform Tian Yannian to go to prison and wait for trial. He will not be wronged. " (when Huo Guang says this, it's obvious that he doesn't want to prolong Baotian's life. Because Tian Yannian participated in his coup plot, he is an important insider and needs to be "silenced") Tian Guangming informed Tian Yannian, but he refused to go to the prison on his own initiative. He said, "thank you for your forgiveness. But what face do I have to go to prison to make people laugh at me and make prison guards spit on my back
Tian Yannian shut himself up at home, partial clothes, holding a knife, walking back and forth, do not know what to do. After a few days, the prime minister issued an arrest warrant, and the messenger called Tian Yannian to Tingwei's house. At home, Tian Yannian heard the drums of arresting people outside (similar to the modern police siren), so he killed himself with a knife. It's a pity that Tian Yannian committed suicide because of corruption. It's really "I knew today before, why did I have to have" ah!
