Wang Jin
Wang Jin (702-781), named Xiaqing, was born in Puzhou (Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province). He is the younger brother of Wang Wei, Prime Minister and calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty.
Born in the Wang family of Hedong, he was eager to learn since childhood and was well-known with Wang Wei. Jinshi and, to serve the censor. When he was appointed as Shaoyin in Taiyuan, he cleaned up discipline and ran the army strictly. After Wang Wuzong and Zhang Fengzhang, the old generals in Taiyuan, who were regarded as unrestrained by virtue of their merits, were executed by military law, the generals of the whole army no longer dare to neglect their duties. After the "an Shi rebellion" subsided, the elder brother Wang Wei was under examination because he was captured by an Lushan. He sincerely asked to be relieved of his official position to atone for his elder brother, so that his elder brother Wang Wei could be lenient. The friendship between brothers is highly praised by the world. In his later years, as the prime minister, he did not dare to fight against Yuan Zai's tyrannical behavior, but agreed with everything. In 777, Yuan Zai was demoted to be the governor of kuozhou (now Lishui City, Zhejiang Province) after being punished. Later, he was called back as a guest of the prince and a branch of Dongdu until his death.
Anecdotes and allusions
When he was the prime minister, he greatly promoted Buddhism. During the Dali period, Buddhism flourished, temples gathered, fertile soil was occupied, and monks were rampant. Temples became a place to hide evils, leading to disrepair of criminal and political affairs, corruption of politics and economy, and shortage of soldiers.
