The greatest motorcyclist of the 20th century -- Duhan
Mike Duhan, the king of 500cc GP, retired after winning the championship of 500cc GP for five consecutive times, which declared the end of a Duhan era. Fans can no longer see Du hanqiang's heroism on the field. The retirement of the lonely overlord brings GP back to the Warring States era.
Used to be a cement maker
Duhan was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on June 4, 1965. His father runs a motorcycle business. In 1974, the 9-year-old little Duhan started his racing career with his two elder brothers, riding a motorcycle modified by his father and equipped with a lawn mower engine to participate in a cross-country race on the mud near his residence. Maybe he has the talent of racing car, maybe because of his competitive personality, little Duhan is invincible among children of the same age. From 1974 to 1982, Duhan took part in some cross-country races one after another. He was not interested in road races. He thought that kind of crazy running was crazy. What he didn't expect was that he would be crazy about it in the end. In 1984, Duhan's fate took a turn. That year, Duhan, 19, went to the garage to repair his car. The boss said that if he was willing to represent his team in the road race held in surfer's paradise (the ring near the Gold Coast), the repair fee would be included in him. As soon as he heard that he could repair the car for free, Duhan agreed without hesitation. As a result, Duhan won the second place in that race, entered the road race circle from then on, swam among the local teams in a similar way, and gradually grew into a good amateur road racer until 1987.
Road racing?
In March 1987, he took part in the SBK super road race on behalf of the injured drivers of the local Yamaha team and won the fifth place unexpectedly. Later, he was called by the team to take part in the 8-hour endurance race of Suzuka. Although he did not win the place, it became the first race for Duhan to enter the international competition. With the recruitment of Yamaha and the encouragement of 8 Naisai, the 22-year-old Duhan officially joined the professional racing career.
In 1988, Duhan was invincible in Australia. The next year, Duhan joined the Honda team, wearing the No. 27 uniform and riding the nsr500 into the gp500. He was soon third on the podium in Germany. And in the annual ranking with the ninth leading because of the injury of senior Cardona.
In 1990, Honda was taken away by Yamaha, the champion of the second consecutive championship, e. Rosen, and the main force Cardona was unable to play his combat effectiveness due to injury. Young Duhan had to carry Honda's signboard on his own. As a result, he took the second and third place twice, won his first 500 Champions Cup in Hungary and won the third place of the year.
In 1991, Duhan, 26, successfully replaced Cardona, 32, as Honda's No.1. In that year's GP, Duhan won the championship three times and the second place seven times. In the last battle, Renny was unable to compete in the pre match practice. As long as Duhan can win the second place, he will be crowned king that year. Unfortunately, in the end, Duhan only ran the third place, lost the championship by one point, and watched the champion fall into Lenny's hands.
The instant change from peak to trough?
In 1992, Duhan's experience was quite legendary. He has accumulated three years of competition experience and his strength has greatly increased. From the beginning of the season, Duhan was able to take four cities in a row. In the first half of the season, Duhan was ahead of his opponents by 5 titles and 2 Asia. Everyone believed that Duhan was the champion of that year. But in the Netherlands GP preliminaries, Duhan due to tire slip and fall, resulting in right foot fracture. His strong desire to win made him limp back to the field to fight for the near victory.
There were only two races left in the competition. Although Duhan worked hard, he had no choice but to recover from the injury. Finally, he missed the gp500 champion again by 2 points. In the following 1993 season, Duhan was at a low ebb, only won one race, and finally ranked fourth. Shuwangzi, who has been fighting with Rennie for many years, finally won the title. Although Rennie, the biggest opponent of Duhan, won the second place, he ended his racing career miserably because of the hemiplegia caused by the car crash.
The glorious journey of five consecutive championships
In 1994, Duhan's state quickly recovered, achieved 9 wins in 14 battles, won the long-awaited gp500 annual championship, and set a world record of six consecutive wins, starting his glorious journey of five consecutive championships with an invincible posture.
The gp500 in 1995 is very different from the situation when Duhan fell. Cardona and Rosen of the older generation quit the world, while Renny, a strong player in the same period, also quit because of injury. Shuwangzi announced his retirement before the end of the season, and the opponent who can compete with Duhan has disappeared. Duhan won 7 of 13 games. A. kribiley, who was on the same team, became Duhan's biggest enemy. But no one can stop Duhan's victory. In the end, he won the third time with 8 wins in 15 races.
In 1997, it was the peak of Duhan Dynasty. The whole gp500 is almost a solo performance by Duhan, who won 12 races in 15 races, making it difficult to tell whether it is a competition or a performance. Most of the Games saw Duhan running alone in front of him. GP fans may secretly have some expectations for Duhan to retire or change teams. This situation had a breakthrough change in 1998. Italian driver M. Biagi, who won the fourth consecutive title in gp250, was promoted to gp500 to challenge Duhan, who also won the fourth championship. In the first race in Japan, Biagi won the championship and was ahead of Duhan in the first half of the season. Gp500 seems to be back to its usual vitality, attracting people's attention. Duhan, who has accumulated 10 years of skill, launched a counterattack in the second half of the season. In the last four games, he completely suppressed Biagi's attack firepower with four wins in a row and successfully completed the fifth consecutive win. However, it was not easy for Duhan to win. Biagi and kribile were in hot pursuit. It was only later that they broke down and separated into the second and third places, which made Duhan dare not take it lightly.
have one's wish
We all wait and see if Duhan can continue his myth. At the beginning of 1999, Duhan met a severe test and lost to Suzuki's little Kenny for two consecutive races. In the second stop in Malaysia, Duhan was more excited than Kenny Jr. at the press conference. That's the joy of the lonely master encountering his opponent. Just as he was preparing for a big fight, he unfortunately fell off his car in the third Spanish heats, resulting in fractures of his right knee, left wrist and right shoulder clavicle. He is active in treatment, has done countless operations, want to return to the field to the dream of six Championships. However, the 11 years of competition left him with a lot of pain. This last fall finally took a generation of overlord away from the competition. Perhaps in this way away from the game, so that Duhan heart full of regret.
He won year after year, but his determination increased, because he enjoyed the car race very much. As soon as you put on your helmet and leather coat, it's like a different person. Although you are old, you still want to break through your boundaries like other young men. The joy of the competition diluted the pressure of defending the throne. Duhan left WGP, leaving a dream of six consecutive titles. I don't know when someone will continue to write.
