Li Jingxuan
Li Jingxuan (615-682), whose name is Jingxuan, was born in Qiao County, Bozhou City (now Qiaocheng District, Bozhou City, Anhui Province). The prime minister, general and governor of the Tang Dynasty, is the son of Li Xiaoqing.
Because he was recommended by Zhongshu Ling Ma Zhou, he became a servant of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty. He successively served as Zhongshu Sheren, hongwenguan bachelor, Shangshu Youcheng, Prince Youshu, Zhongshu Shilang, Limu Shilang, moved to Limu Shangshu, Tongping Zhangshi, and presided over quanxuan. Tired of moving in the book order, the Duke of Zhao. In the third year of Yifeng's reign (678), he went out to be the general manager of Taohe River. He led the army to fight against Tubo. He was defeated and returned. He was demoted as the governor of Hengzhou and moved to Yangzhou.
In the first year of Yongchun (682), he died of illness at the age of 68. He was awarded to the governor of Yanzhou as a posthumous title of Wenxian.
Life of the characters
Early deeds
When he was young, Li Jingxuan was well read and proficient in etiquette. Later, on the recommendation of Ma Zhou, the commander of Zhongshu, he entered Chongxian hall and became a servant of Prince Li Zhi (Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty). He has been praised by Xu Jingzong and others for his cold nature and diligent research. He has successively served as Zhongshu Sheren, Hongwen library bachelor, yousuji, and the right central guard of the crown prince.
As prime minister
In 669 (the second year of the general chapter), Li Jingxuan was promoted to be the Minister of Western Taiwan and the third grade of tongdongtai. He also served as the chief minister of the school inspection department. He entrusted the affairs of the Department of official affairs to Zhang Renyi, a member of the yuan wailang, and followed Zhang Renyi's revised procedure of selecting officials. He presided over the selection of officials for many years, which made the selection of officials in an orderly way.
In 672 (the third year of Xianheng), Li Jingxuan served as the Minister of the Ministry of officials, and was granted the title of Yinqing Guanglu doctor. He also served as the prince youshuzi and tongzhongshumen Sanpin, and later supervised the compilation of national history.
In 675 (the second year of Shangyuan Dynasty), Li Jingxuan was promoted to minister of the Ministry of officials. He had been in charge of the Ministry of officials for many years, and had a joint clan with the Li family of Zhao county. His three wives were all born in Shandong, so they had great influence in the court. Tang Gaozong was not happy about this, but did not publicly criticize his fault.
Defeat in the battle for Tibet
In 676 (the first year of Yifeng), Li Jingxuan was promoted to zhongshuling and granted the title of Zhao Guogong. At that time, Li Jingxuan held different opinions and obstructed Liu Rengui's invitation, so they had a bad relationship.
In 678 (the third year of Yifeng), Tubo invaders. Knowing that Li Jingxuan didn't have the talent of a general, Liu Rengui deliberately asked, "it's not for Li Jingxuan to guard Hexi." Li Jingxuan strongly refused. At this time, Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty hated Li Jingxuan and said, "if Liu Rengui needs me to go, I will take the initiative to go, but I can't refuse." He was appointed as the chief manager of Taohe River and Ambassador of Zhenfu, the governor of Shanzhou, and led the army to resist Tubo.
In September of the same year, Li Jingxuan fought with Tubo general Lun Qinling in Qinghai, and ordered Liu Shenli to be the vanguard. He could not move forward by himself, so Liu Shenli was defeated and captured. After Liu Shenli was defeated, Li Jingxuan fled in confusion and retreated to chengfengling to dig a trench for defense. At this time, general Hei Chi Chang led his dead soldiers to attack the Tibetan army at night, which led to the withdrawal of the Tibetan army. Li Jingxuan was able to return to Shanzhou and was defeated by the Tubo in Huangchuan.
Demoted to death
In 680 (the first year of Yonglong), Li Jingxuan declared his illness and asked to return to Beijing, which was approved. After he returned to Beijing, he did not take the blame and pleaded guilty, so he went directly to Zhongshu province to work. Knowing that he was not ill, Tang Gaozong demoted him to be the governor of Hengzhou, and later changed to be the governor of Yangzhou.
In 682 (the first year of Yongchun), Li Jingxuan died at the age of 68. He was awarded the title of Wenxian to the governor of Yanzhou.
Anecdotes and allusions
During the Yonghui period, the number of alternate officials increased gradually, and few of them were competent. After Li Jingxuan presided over the election, he was praised by people all over the world. He remembers that more than 10000 officials run for election every year, and they can call their names whenever they meet them on the street. If the officials are not selected to come to complain, they can also dictate the mistakes in their written judgment on the spot without any mistakes.
Xu taixuan, who joined the army in Hangzhou, turned himself in to the government because his colleague Zhang Hui's mother was old, saying that he and Zhang Hui were corrupt together. Zhang Hui was able to get rid of the capital crime, and Xu taixuan was also removed from his official post, and he was not allowed to be promoted for more than ten years. When Li Jingxuan learned about it, he appreciated it very much and was promoted to Zhengzhou Sigong to join the army. Later. Xu taixuan's officials, Secretary Shaojian and shenwangshi, were highly praised by the people at that time for their noble morality.
Character evaluation
Liu Xu: Cui and Lu Shugong were both loyal to the Qing Dynasty, and became the cardinal. He is a gentleman of peace and integrity. However, it can be said that Xu taixuan was able to do good.
