No. 16, Lane 303, Huashan Road, is the former residence of Cai Yuanpei, a democratic revolutionist and educator in China. The former residence has been listed as a municipal cultural relic protection unit by the Municipal People's government. In order to remember Cai Yuanpei's achievements, students from primary and secondary schools in our city often go to visit him in groups. The former residence, with a construction area of 526 square meters and a garden area of 671 square meters, was rented by Mr. Cai Yuanpei. The original owner of the real estate was bought and sold by Sheng Pancheng (the third son of Sheng Xuanhuai, a famous American businessman) in the name of Kong Xiangxi. After liberation, it was managed by the people's government and continued to be used by Mr. Cai Yuanpei's relatives. At present, the first floor is set up as the exhibition hall of his former residence, and the second and third floors are occupied by the children of Mr. Cai Yuanpei. The furnishings of his former residence are basically the same as those of Mr. Cai Yuanpei. The building area of the exhibition hall is 210 square meters. The exhibition is divided into three parts: first, "from studying hard to saving the nation through education"; second, "the founder of modern Chinese education and science cause"; third, "aspiring to national revolution and awakening to democracy and freedom". At the same time, it also shows the typewriter, suitcase and other cultural relics he used during his lifetime.

Cai Yuanpei's former residence refers to the birthplace, work and revolutionary activities of Cai Yuanpei, a famous revolutionist, educator, politician and Democratic Progressive in modern Chinese history.
Cai Yuanpei's former residence is located at No.13 bifei lane, Xiaoshan Street, Shaoxing City. It is a Ming and Qing Dynasty platform gate building with Shaoxing characteristics. It is also the only celebrity Memorial Hall in China that specially introduces Cai Yuanpei's life story. The main buildings are foyer, hall and block building. It covers an area of 1856 square meters, with a construction area of 1004 square meters. It has brick and wood structure, lattice doors and windows, black tile wall and bluestone slab. Shaoxing's former residence has been listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Zhejiang Province.
To pay homage to medical workers, the scenic spot will be open to medical workers from February 19, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

Overview of former residence
In Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, Cai Yuanpei's grandfather jiamogong bought his own house in bifei lane. At first, there were three couplets in the hall. Later, five floors and five bottoms were built in the back of the house. From three generations under his grandfather, he wished his father Pei Baoyu the first floor in the East, one floor and one arcade. Cai Yuanpei was born here on January 11, 1868. The second room in the east of the block is his study and bedroom. He lived here before the age of 28, when he worked in Shaoxing Zhongxi school (now Shaoxing No.1 Middle School) and when he returned home.
The main buildings of the former residence are hall, hall and block building, with a total area of 1856 square meters and a construction area of 1004 square meters. It is of brick and wood structure, lattice doors and windows, black tile wall and bluestone floor. There are three halls, facing east from the West. The plaque on the lintel reads "former residence of Cai Yuanpei" written by Liu Haisu, an art master. In the hall, there is a bust of Cai Yuanpei, with a kind and wise eye and a style of elder. Above the hall hung the plaque of Mao Zedong's "academic leader" and the couplet written by Zhou Enlai and Shen Dingan: "from paiman to the Anti Japanese War, the ambition of Mr. Mao Zedong was national revolution; from the May 4th movement to the Human Rights League, the journey of Mr. Mao Zedong was democracy and freedom." The couplet highly summarizes the glorious course of Cai Yuanpei's life.
At present, the front wing room of the former residence hall, the hall and the rooms on both sides, the West Wing room in front of the block building and the room on the west side of the block building are all set up as the "exhibition room of Cai Yuanpei's life and historical relics", which introduces Cai Yuanpei's life achievements. Cai Yuanpei (1868-1940), with the name of Heqing and the name of Jimin, was born in the imperial examination. He served successively as the director general of education in the Republic of China, President of Peking University and President of Academia Sinica. He was a famous democratic revolutionist, educator and scientist in modern China. The main building of the former residence is a brick and wood structure facing south, with three entrances. The first entrance hall faces the West and the East, with the plaque of "Cai Yuanpei's former residence" written by Liu Haisu on it; the second entrance hall and the third entrance building face the south, and the three entrances are not on the same axis. The front patio from the foyer to the hall is very open, almost as big as a basketball court. The surrounding walls are also very high, and the high walls are deep in the courtyard, which is very impressive. In the middle of the hall stands the bust of Cai Yuanpei, which is quite scholarly. On the left wall, there is a huge couplet of "academic leader, world model" written by Mao Zedong and Sha Menghai; on the right wall, there is a couplet of "from paiman to the Anti Japanese War, Mr. Wang's ambition is in the national revolution; from the May 4th movement to the League of human rights, Mr. Wang's journey is in democracy and freedom" written by Zhou Enlai and Shen Dingan. Cai Yuanpei was born here and spent his childhood and adolescence. Cai Yuanpei's former residence has been listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Zhejiang Province.
