Tonghai Confucian temple, located in the south corner of Tonghai County, Yunnan Province, is located at the foot of Xiushan. It is a composite ancient building group with multiple buildings on the central axis. The Confucian temple is composed of red wall (65 meters long, 1.9 meters thick and 8 meters high), panchi, wenmingfang, zhonglieci, jiexiaoci, dachengmen, Xiangxian, Minghuan Ci, Dongwan, Xiwan, dachengdian, Zhonggulou, chongshengci and zunjingge, covering a total area of 12000 square meters.
Brief introduction of Confucian Temple
Tonghai Confucian temple was first built in Yuan Dynasty (recorded in the stele of rebuilding Tonghai temple in the 13th year of Yongzheng reign of Qing Dynasty). It was moved to the later site in Wanli reign of Ming Dynasty. The later buildings are the objects of Kangxi and Yongzheng reign in early Qing Dynasty. Special civilization square (built in the 11th year of Yongzheng) is magnificent. On the whole, Tonghai Confucian temple gives people a sense of solemnity and solemnity.
In the Qing Dynasty, Zhu Yi (Minister of rites), Dong Jian and Dong Jian of Gongsun Hanlin, and famous calligrapher Jia Zhenzhao were cultivated in Tonghai Temple School. Tonghai Confucian temple was announced as "the fifth batch of cultural relics protection units" by Yunnan provincial government in 1998.
Tonghai Confucian temple was expanded in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The main building layout was arranged on the longitudinal axis according to the terrain order. The East and West corridors and veranda were symmetrically arranged on both sides of the main hall. The overall layout was four into three courtyards. In 1731 (the ninth year of Yongzheng reign of Qing Dynasty), the Confucian temple was expanded according to the regulations of that time. In the early Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Zhao Cheng, a gentleman from Tonghai, presided over the expansion of the Confucian temple. The Dacheng Hall of the Confucian temple was magnificent and tall. The building complex of the Confucian temple was relatively standard, with broad walls, bright moon in panchi, symmetrical corridors and connected corridors and verandahs. The unique brackets, glazed tile roofs, hollowed out doors and windows, and heavy oil decorations made the Confucian temple more sacred . Due to various historical reasons, the Confucian temple has caused great damage, especially from 1953 to 1958. Up to 2005, there were still eight ancient Confucian temple buildings completely demolished. Later, the East and West veranda were also changed from the original nine bay to seven Bay. Many modern buildings have been built in the Confucian temple. The original walls, roads and courtyard greening of the Confucian temple no longer exist. Only a small part of the Confucian temple completely preserves the original architectural style and style.
