brief introduction
In Southwest Hunan, Wugang, a mountain city with a history of more than 2200 years, is located in the southwest of Shaoyang City, Hunan Province. In 1994, the county was removed to establish a city (county-level city). In the south, Yunshan (one of the four famous mountains in ancient Hunan) can be seen from afar, and Zijiang River passes through the city.
Historically, Wugang was once the seat of the state capital, with a large number of literati and writers, and a profound cultural heritage. In Langshi village, Shuangpai Township, located in the east of Wugang City, an ancient architectural complex was found, which surprised the world with an ancient residential culture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China. Langshi Village

Langshi ancient dwellings
Located in Langshi village, Shuangpai Township, Wugang City, Hunan Province, it is a key cultural relic protection unit. Provincial Highway S219 passes through the East. It is 60 kilometers away from Wugang City. It is a well preserved and unique ancient residential complex in Qing Dynasty. Langshi village has 88 existing buildings (excluding ancestral halls, nunneries, temples and pavilions), with a total area of 10880 square meters and 55 well preserved buildings. These buildings were built from the 52nd year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty to the 3rd year of the Republic of China. They all face south, with neat arrangement, simple style, exquisite layout, and unique architectural style. All the houses are of the same brick and wood frame structure, with painted corner sealed fire walls at both ends and wooden houses with wooden columns in the middle. The alleys between each row of houses are paved with bluestone slabs. Even if it rains heavily, they can be seen from the courtyard East to west will not wet shoes, can be called a unique. The most distinctive feature of Langshi village is that couplets are carved on the stone pillars of each corner gate. There are 41 stone couplets, several of which seem to be written by he Shaoji, a famous calligrapher in the Qing Dynasty. The calligraphy of these couplets is either vigorous, delicate or elegant. According to the identification of poetry and couplets professionals inside and outside the province, the ancient couplet village like Langshi, which has such a concentration of couplets, couplets, calligraphy and carving, is also very rare in the country, and has great significance of cultural relics and cultural tourism value. In ancient times, Langshi village was the economic center and transportation hub at the border of surrounding counties. Shiban road extends in all directions, so it is known as "little Nanjing". However, after years of devastation and historical changes, the stone road has been destroyed. Now, the traffic condition of Langshi village has become a big obstacle to show its face to the world. As for transportation, in 1973, a simple rural highway with a total length of 1.5 km was built; in 1991, the masses spontaneously built a simple public highway
It's 11 kilometers long. At present, the main traffic route to the outside world is the county road between Wugang and Shaoyang. Langshi village belongs to limestone hilly area. The ground is densely covered with stone forest, the pines and cypresses are green in the stone crevices, and the underground caves are full of strange things. A spring overflowed from the cave, converged into a stream and poured into Zijiang. Langshi village has many reservoirs, such as Sanjiangkou reservoir (Shaowu reservoir), shuangyatang reservoir, Datang reservoir and Youyi reservoir. There are abundant underground coal resources in this area. In addition to the good scenery of Gulai peak and other places, most of the mountains in the village have been abandoned (in 1958, tens of thousands of cubic meters of ancient trees were destroyed due to steel smelting, in 1967, more than 700 mu of newly planted trees were basically destroyed in the 1990s). The walking in the village is mainly soil roads, and the overall health condition is poor, so the overall ecological environment needs to be improved. According to reports, Langshi village covers an area of 5553 mu, including 1287 mu of paddy fields (excluding vegetable fields). The residential land in the village is mainly barren hills and slopes. There are about 100 ancient residents and 400 modern ordinary residents. The area of ancient dwellings is 10880 square meters, 55 of which are well preserved, covering an area of 6930 square meters. From map II, we can see that the existing ancient houses are mainly divided into four courtyards: shangfangtou, erfangtou, Dayuanzi and liujiaao. Now, some modern ordinary houses have been mixed in the courtyard and between the courtyards, including the earth houses or brick houses rebuilt on the basis of the destroyed ancient houses, the buildings newly built after demolishing the ancient houses, and the buildings newly built next to the courtyard of the ancient houses. They have caused great damage to the style of the ancient houses, and the ancient houses themselves are deep
Narrow lanes and compact layout of houses bring difficulties to the protection, maintenance and development of ancient dwellings. It can be seen from the attached photo I: This is a photo taken from the flat roof of a two-story ordinary building, showing the overhanging eaves roofs of a group of ancient residential buildings surrounded and surrounded by ordinary residential buildings.
