Historical evolution
Yuquyuan memorial hall is located at the south foot of Gushan Mountain. It is rebuilt from Yu Lou, the former residence of Yu Yue, a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty. It is known as "the first building of West Lake". Yu Yue (1821-1907), with the name of Yinfu and the name of Quyuan, was born in Deqing, Zhejiang Province. He was a great master of Puxue in the late Qing Dynasty. From 1862 to 1908 (during the reign of Tongzhi and Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty), Yu Yue was appointed as the tutor of Gujing jingshe in Gushan, Hangzhou, with a teaching span of more than 30 years. All the disciples named the Gujing jingshe he taught as Yu Lou. In 1878 (the fourth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu), the disciples initiated the construction of Yu tower. The first two floors were built with walls, rockeries, rocks and pavilions. The newly-built yuquyuan memorial hall is built with blue brick walls, green tiles and brown columns, and cornices. The rich cultural relics, pictures and materials at the bottom fully show Yu Yue's life, academic achievements and his contribution to the West Lake landscape culture, especially a number of Yu Quyuan manuscripts, ink treasures and rare treasures. It will not be five hundred years before this building will be completed. It's near the north and south of the mountain. It's suitable to be on the side of the Liuyi spring.
After the death of Yu Quyuan in 1907, Yu Lou was idle by the lake for a while, and the buildings were empty. In 1920, Xu Yinzhi, the grandson of Yu Quyuan, rebuilt Yu tower. After the Anti Japanese War, Yu Lou was once rented as a restaurant and a staff dormitory for Xihu National Academy of Arts. Pan Tianshou, a master of traditional Chinese painting who was later the president of the Academy, once lived here. In May 1998, according to the general pattern recorded in the relevant historical materials, the famous house with 119 years old was rebuilt according to the old style. Now Yu building is an antique brick and stone structure, with double eaves on the top of the mountain, two floors and three bays, grey walls, Dai tiles and brown columns. In the back of the building, a corridor is built to connect with the rebuilt Xishuang Pavilion and pangpo Pavilion, which reproduces the elegant and elegant style of Yulou in the past. Since then, yuquyuan memorial hall has been built here, which was officially opened to tourists in February 1999.
Yu Runmin, the xuansun of Yu Quyuan and the son of Yu Pingbo, learned that Yu Lou had built the museum, and donated a batch of Yu Quyuan manuscripts, ink treasures, works, inscriptions, pictures and the handwriting of Xu Naipu, Tan Zhonglin and other celebrities in the same period to Yu Quyuan Memorial Museum for exhibition.
