Houtan park is one of the core green spaces of Shanghai World Expo Park. It is located at the west end of "2010 Shanghai World Expo Park", between the East Bank of Huangpu River and Puming road. Historical evolution

The inferior class V water of Huangpu River is purified to class III water by sedimentation, aeration and oxygenation, and purification of soil, plants and microorganisms in the process of slowly flowing through the wetland, which is used for landscape, irrigation and washing of the Expo site. The preliminary trial operation shows that the water purification capacity of Houtan park is 2400t per day. This is not only a practical water purification system, but also a display and popular science education system.
Purification process: from west to East, the wetland water flows through pathogen purification area, heavy metal purification area and nutrient purification area, and then enters into the water quality stable regulation area; during this period, the water flows in and out of the terraces through underground pipelines, and the water is purified in a circuitous way.
System design: the water level and longitudinal velocity of Huangpu River and inland river wetland are considered in the purification system; the ecological design of lake bottom provides conditions for water biodiversity; meanwhile, the sedimentation, oxygenation, filtration and biological absorption of water body are considered.
The water level is high in the West and low in the East; the river water level is high and the wetland water level is low, so the water flows naturally in the purification circulation system.
Ecological flood control system

Luditai, with an area of about 1650 square meters, is located in the middle of Houtan park. The former sewage treatment plant wharf is 10 meters long and 8 meters wide. The whole wharf and foundation are reserved in the design and transformed into a leisure platform.
