Development history
Hengshan Park was originally built by the Council of the French concession in 1925. In May 1926, the project was completed and opened to foreigners. Because the park is located on beidang Road (now Hengshan Road), it is named beidang park. In 1963, it was renamed Hengshan park. Since 1965, due to the needs of construction projects, it has stopped opening to the outside world. It was reopened on April 10, 1987
And the park has been adjusted appropriately.
Main attractions
There are three hundred year old Cinnamomum camphora trees in Hengshan Park, two in the west of the gate and one in the east of the park. In the center of the park, there are more than 1000 square meters of large lawns, tall trees and large lawns, shrubs and flowers. It is suitable for playing and walking.
Oval flower bed: there is an oval flower bed in the garden gate, which is not only a scene in the garden, but also a barrier to the whole garden. All kinds of seasonal flowers are planted in the flowerbed. Behind the flowerbed are layered shrubs, coral trees and tall Metasequoia glyptostroboides as the background; several Osmanthus fragrans are planted on both sides to set off.
Big lawn and statue of Shen Junru: big lawn and statue of Shen Junru are the main scenic spots of the park. In front of the slope on the right side of the lawn, the statue of Shen Junru steps up three steps along the path of flower path. The 3-meter-high base is composed of huge irregular granite, which holds up the statue from small to large. It symbolizes that Shen Junru has been fighting for the rejuvenation of China all his life through the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China and the people's Republic of China. The statue is half length, 1.5 meters high, made of bronze. It has a smiling face, slightly squinting eyes and fluttering beard. The text about Shen Junru's life is engraved on a huge bowl shaped stone on the right. Shen Junru loved stone all his life. He often said that stone was the hardest and purest. His study was called "living with stone", so he lived with stone here. Behind the statue, there are two small hills, on which several Cinnamomum camphora trees are planted. Under the hills, there are some flowering shrubs, such as Podocarpus arvensis, Magnolia grandiflora, Magnolia grandiflora, Prunus humilis and so on.
