There are antique glazed tile buildings, Taihu stone rockery, water surface, fountains and well carved pavilions. The cemetery is to the east of the garden, and to the south of it is separated from Cao's ancestral hall by a powder wall. During the Anti Japanese War, the garden was occupied by the Japanese army, and the buildings, flowers and trees in the garden were seriously damaged. After the victory of the war of resistance against Japan, it was once planned to open tickets, but it didn't come true. On the eve of the liberation of Shanghai, Kuomintang troops were stationed in the garden, and the garden scenery was damaged again. After liberation, the garden became more desolate because of no management for a long time. On May 29, 1957, the Municipal Planning Bureau issued a document to establish the park. In October 1958, it was rebuilt by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of landscape architecture and opened to the outside world, named Caoxi park.
In 1982, the garden was expanded to the East and the north, forming two gardens in the north and the south. In 1996, due to the need of municipal construction, the elevated road was built on humin road and Caoxi Road, and 7 mu of land was acquired.
