Historical evolution

Dongtou County has a short history but a long history of development. According to the research of cultural relics unearthed from jiumuqiu, as early as 3000 years ago, there were human activities in Dongtou archipelago.

In the second year of the first Yuan Dynasty of the Western Han Dynasty (85 BC), it belonged to Huipu county and was subordinate to Kuaiji county. In the third year of Yonghe (138), Dongou township of Zhang'an county was established as Yongning County, which was still under the jurisdiction of Kuaiji county.

After the first liberation of Dongtou on October 7, 1949 (August 15 of the lunar calendar) and the final liberation of Dongtou on January 15, 1952, both belong to Yuhuan County. On November 16, 2001, the administrative division of Dongtou County was adjusted: Shuangpu Township, Sanpan Township and Beisha Township were abolished and merged into Beiao town. High hills (above 250m above sea level) are mainly distributed in the middle of Damen Island, Luxi Island, Niyu Island, zhuangyuan'ao island and the west of Dongtou island. The slopes are steep, generally 30-40 degrees, especially in the edge zone, with steep slopes or cliffs larger than 40 degrees; the top is gentle, generally 15-25 degrees. The highest peak, Yandun mountain, is located at Damen Island, 391.8 meters above sea level. In high and hilly areas, convex slope and straight-line slope are dominant, and some sections are compound slope.
